Ok I had finally gotten done repairing my engine and it was running fine. The only thing I had left to do was tune it. Had it running great this morning now the starter doesn't do anything when I try to turn it over with the key but if I leave the key in the on position the starter tries to start by itself but it just clicks.. another issue is that the obd connector doesn't communicate with the PCM. The obd tool It connects and powers on fine but no communication. Tried three different tools. Before all this crap happened my friend accidently put the battery in backwards. While it started and ran fine for days something finally gave up today. What do you guys think it could be?

no way the cables reached to be on backwards, unless your pal is really brain dead. and no way in hell, it a, cranked, or b started with the cables on wrong.

I'd say try charging the battery just to rule that out as a possibility... the battery went bad in my wife's 2015 Chrysler 200C, it tested good a month ago and Monday just stopped holding a charge. It was a warrantied part, but a new battery cal still go bad.

There is a fusible link in the cable going to the starter, its right up next to the starter, that could have blown when the battery got hooked up backwards. I'd say try jumping that fusible link with a jumper cable from underneath the car on jack stands, obviously being careful not to get your hands caught in a bad place and have two helpers to keep things from getting "too" dangerous... one at the passenger side to pull the jumper cables off the battery after, and one to try starting it after you bypass the fusible link.

If the starter turns the engine over, it's the fusible link. If not, it'll most likely be the starter itself.

Yes it was a new battery I was installing and while I was hooking up something else it sparked when he put it on backward. I'll check the fusible link today. I'm at the junkyard now. How do I get the ignition switch out without key?

When I hook up the obd it shuts down the electrical. Even when I turn the key I get no power when I'm plugged to obd no radio no nothing. When I unhook it I get power and the dic says charging system failure
