Hey guys just wondered if it was possible/cost effective to swap my series II n/a to a series III s/c, or to get a L67 instead. Any estimations on cost for either one? I definitely want to supercharge, just not sure which road to take. Are there more mods for one or the other? And what parts would be needed to make the new engine fit? Thanks in advance for any help.

it has been done and it is fairly cost effective if you know how to find parts.

for the whole engine expect something in the area of $600-1000. for a top swap (you put the supercharged motors top end on the n/a bottom end) i would expect something in the area of $400-800.

all the parts for both series are interchangeable minus a few that got a little sophisticated in the series 3 (drive by wire TB, etc.)

ive heard that a top swap isnt as good though, as the L36 engine has a harder time with the added power of the s/c.

i still cant decide which to do though. top swap will probably be cheaper. which one will bring me more power? and if i do swap engines, should i upgrade tranny as well? ive heard the non-hd tranny will bring me more torque, which is what im looking for, but the hd tranny will last longer. is there a way to beef up the non-hd tranny?

top swap will make more power on the same pulley as a motor swap would because of the higher compression. youll also need more supporting mods to be able to do that due to the higher compression.

the only upside to the non-hd tranny is that it has the 3.29 gears (instead of the 2.93s in the HD) so you get a little more acceleration. with as much torque these cars make it doesnt make a ton of difference what gears you have since when youre decently modded first gear is useless. you can convert a non-hd to an hd with a few parts, but its not really worth it unless you beat on your car like a redheaded step child. my non-hd is holding up to 131k miles of abuse so far, but i dont let it do 3-1 downshifts and i dont do burnouts. i usually roll into the throttle.

Why are you trying to swap the engine that is in you're car now for a L36? Why not put a top swap on the engine that is in the car now.

youll have to switch out the flywheel for the one that is on your l36 so it can mate up with the transmission.

youll have to do a couple wiring changes for the MAP and BBV as well. you can get an l67 swap kit from ZZP with all the wires and directions needed.

i wouldnt bother with the aurora motor. isnt worth the hassle to try and make it work with the limited amount of things you can do with it.

the reason i was looking into switching engines was that the gen V can go on it. idk if they fit on the series II or not. i was going to try to get them all together (series III/4t65e-hd/gen V ) thinking it might be cheaper. dont the series III engines make more stock hp or no? also i know there is a thread with the parts i would need to do an engine swap/top swap. anyone have a link, theres a lot of threads out there. lol
