Hey i can't find the thread right now but I've read multiple places that the stock catback was good for I believe around 300whp which I can understand when it splits at the y everything after that should be good to go but, before the y the resonator sections is only 2.25 I believe and then if that's the case would that not be a restriction? If 2.25 isn't a restriction everyone would just keep there stock downpipe right?

The exhaust flow means less the further away it is from the exhaust manifolds.

It's why you can run 3in factory exhaust on a V8 that makes 350-400whp and be just fine. The muffler is the bigger restriction than the size of the pipe is.

Ooo well I guess that makes sense then. Are there any gains replacing the stock res with a 2.5" or 3" magnaflow or other brand?

Not much gains from replacing the res other than a different exhaust note. The only restriction in the factory exhaust I have heard of was the "U" bend on the 97-03 after the cat.

the stock down pipe is the restriction, headers give you a 3 inch to the res. and your done. unless you got a turbo or some insane m90 build. then a full 3" cat back would be worth the money.
