I believe that I have a starter issue. I do know that I have an issue with the crank sensor since I had the symptoms of the tach stopping working but it has never stopped the car from starting before only when driving did it do that but it still ran. The other day stopped at the mailbox, get back to the car it wants to start but has issues. Seems like a battery problem. I try a few times and it starts up get in the driveway and leave it running to check the battery voltage and see that alternator is passing higher than 12Volts so seems like is charging it.

Let it sit and see if has issues next day. Starts up get to work and fine. Leave work fine, get to store right before home stuck and wont start. It makes a click but wont turn over. I assume that the crank sensor even if bad would prevent maybe the engine from running but not trying to start or would that cause that? I figure as long as the starter has no issues like worn brushes or other and battery is good or jumped it should try to turn over or at least engage the starter.

Trying right now to get the damn air dam under the car off. On my 97 was some screws but this one seems to tuck into the bottom of the lip of the built in valence on the front bumper and I took out the 3 to 4 10mm bolts and I cannot see what else to remove that would get it out.

Do you just rip that ****er out because its just tucked in there or anyone know if there are some hidden screws or bolts I am missing? I saw a video on replacing it and I have rebuilt the one on my truck a few times and was stuck because I couldn't get to the starter to try and hit it a few times.

I was hoping would be able to get it off before the nightfall but missing that now, but any ideas on how to get that off so I can check the starter would be great. I did search but didn't find anything about the cover itself.

    Thanks!

I have an 00 GTP and there is nothing under the starter blocking my way to access it from under the car. Simply jack up the car, remove 2 bolts holding starter to motor, remove the starter wires and it's off.

So to be clear about your post, you tried jump starting the car and it still just clicks? Battery has a full charge?

Crank position sensor can keep the car from starting if it has completely failed, but it won't keep the car from cranking over and trying to start.

There is definitely a cover. I don't mean over the starter I mean the one on the bottom of the car that goes from the bumper to the radiator support. I hope it's more apparent how to get it off after jacking up the car. Has to be a few more bolts I'm not able to see otherwise.

The starter is further in then from the bumper to radiator support by around 2ft.

They changed the cover somewhere between 00-02 which is why it's different than your 97. There is a push style clip up in the bumper by each fog light and there should be one more in the middle hiding up inside the bumper. You might be able to take it off with the bumper still on but I just took my bumper off Because it was easier. You would probably b3 able to bend the cover out of the way to change the starter, at least on mine it's kinda flexible.
