My temperature gauge rises fast after starting the engine when it's cold. And it always stays at 260(highest) when I'm driving. I have already replaced thermostat, temperature sensor, and bled the cooling system and still stays high. The engine doesn't seem to overheat though. Anybody can help me figure what's wrong?

I wonder if there is a blockage in the coolant system that isn't allowing the the coolant around the thermostat to circulate.

fans coming on? them temp sensors are known to be dead in the box new. its a two part sensor, one signal to the dash, the other to the fans. one or the other fails.

give that little harness a good looking over for cracks or missing insulation on the wires. if you see bare wire, the harness is the issue, it bakes in the heat from the exhaust.

if the wires look ok, toss another sensor in there.

I've had bad luck with the aftermarket sensors before, now I only use the ac delco temp sensors. they are like 10 or 20 bucks on amazon.

the later cars only use a 2 wire. early cars with the 3 wire have the older gauge clusters that have a dedicated temp sensor input VS over the Serial/CAN bus units of ~00+

ive seen plenty of "repaired" clusters too...its possible the needle was incorrectly installed/stepper has a position error, use a scan tool to check for Instrument Panel Cluster computer codes

Just a thought. I have a 16 psi radiator cap. Would that be making the problem since the stock one is 15 psi?

The wires look ok. It doesn't have insulation though.

insulation is what the wires are wrapped in. at the end of the plug where the wires go in is a common point to break.

The ends are still intact. Would a leak in the radiator cause the gauge to be high?

if you have a leak fix it. if the coolant is super low, sure it can run hot.

I had a small hairline Crack on the plastic tank and I put some jb weld. And it fixed it. I'm going to buy a new radiator just haven't had money. The radiator is always full. I already went to a gm dealership and order a sensor from them. They should have it by tomorrow morning. So hopefully that one fixes the gauge.

So if the radiator is full and fans come on. That means it's not running hot? Just the bad sensor is giving a bad reading?

most of the time your fine, open the bleeder a top the t stat housing car running and hot and make sure its bled properly of air, if you open it and coolant streams out your good to go.

if it just spits bubbles leave it open till a stream comes out.
