    Hello everyone.

I am debating about taking a 97-03 and doing a v8 rwd conversion. Has this been done before I know i have seen the awd and rwd but i havent seen anthing about a v8 rwd. Any help would be appreciated. I know it will cost alot and all that so save me that lol.

I'm pretty sure I've heard of one or two people that have done it.

Are you talking about a street legal car? Its easy enough to cut out the guts of any car and set it on top of a race car chassis but insurance and registration are kinks that should be worked out first. Solve those with your local laws and insurer, then maybe I can give you some pointers. I have given some thought to how to do the work to the car.

No, you are not going to do it. You are going to plan on doing it. You may even think about doing it. But you will never actually do it. Just like 99℅ of the people who had this same idea before you.

both hoenel's car and soccrplayers both have the equivalent of over 20K in just the chassis/conversion

so take a car worth 3k, and dump another 20+k into it, and then fab for any future mods.

or get a foxbody/xxxxxx drag car roller, and use off the shelf stuff to toss your v6 into it

Don't be discouraged by the nay-sayers. A lot of people on this forum can't understand anything different from the norm.

Everything will depend on your budget.

You're going to need a frame, since your Grand Prix is a unibody. It will need to be 110.5" wheelbase to fit everything properly. Look into the class that you want to run and see what is allowed. There's really going to be two options though: Building a frame or starting with a frame from another vehicle. I think people have used F-Body frames in the past. Once that part is out of the way, everything else will be easy.

there was one concept car awd. the twin engine gtp is another animal of its own, street legal, it might not pass. but the crazy factor was there for sure.

keep in mind, that guy runs a fab shop of sorts. when you have all the tools and the know how already, you can make things happen, us side of the house garage dreamers got another thing coming when reality slaps you across the face.

I think you meant Cadillac Catera. I did a search for any around here and found a non running one for 800. Stupid autocorrect.

This is a 3800 rwd conversion. Most things can be done with some combination of enough money, skill, dedication and determination. So if you are willing to spend enough time and money to be different go for it. Do it in a build thread here so we all can see.

30+ years of people asking these types of questions and then not doing anything with their plans...... then call me a nay-sayer.
