Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
Yes having the correct one bar or 2 bar map sensor for the bin file is necessary having the incorrect sensor for either one will cause massive headaches. But what I'm talking about is that the map sensor will not sense the pressure changes as fast when that pressure change as to affect twice to 3 times the volume of air because of a line running from the engine into the car for a boost gauge.
because of this the readings can be slow and inaccurate....kinda not what your pcm wants
Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
Okay yea I understand what your saying it's just I'm not getting any positive or boost numbers all negative and not even close to where it should be.

Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
check bbv is closed with engine off, top port connected to top of sc inlet port, lower bbv actuator port open to air or connected to the oem bbv solenoid.
if bbv is closing and a sc belt is present then im gonna guess you need to double check your MAP sensor part number.
as well as the bin file, a 1 bar os will never see boost, a 1 bar os with a 2 bar map will have ****ed up load calc's as the mapo sensor tells it the MAPressure is lower than it is, it will run but not like it till it learns.
a 2 bar os with a 1 bar map will show boost under higher throttle openings, even on an NA engine. load calcs will be way off, run rich
a 2 bar os with 2 bar map will show boost as it should if the sc is working with correct load calc's
im gonna gues that's not a two bar/GTP OSID bin, or someone just copied 2 bar settings into a 1 bar bin's MAP tables, without properly changing all the rest.
Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
he got a zzp canned tune, it was na with na map setting, he was using the na map. the tps was working fine, he was super pig rich. -22 at idle.
ff hes got a dhp. he read his bin, emailed it to me, i pretty much copied it to a gtp bin. he swapped the pig tail and map to a l67, scans show only neg boost numbers. and the tps started to act up soon after the new bin and map.
Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
he needs to check the map pinout, he may have the wrong color map pigtail
tps/map are on the same 5v
Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
tell him to go by the pinout of the sensor and oem wire colors and not the map sensor pigtail.
ps
when swapping maps from 1-2 bar, you can change just the body with a weatherpack pin removal tool, even though you can also cut out the "key" tabs with an x-acto knife.
if its a 2nd gen "mini-map" the conn from other metripack components can be used and have some odd colors dep on the application
Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
what color should it be for a 2000? i didnt think the pig tail would matter, unless you mean hes got em backwards. we were thinking it would set a code if they were backwards and he double checked the wires with another guy who top swapped his car and his l67 map reads boost right.
Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
I matched the pins up they are lettered A, B, and C and it's how I have it, it's deffently wired correctly.

Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
was it flashed with a high altitude/ dual MAP bin?
Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
if you mean a l67 bin file, yes.
the zzp tune was on a l36 bin, i copied the tune over to the l67 bin.
Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
check the baro sensing and baro code settings. it may be a high alt OSIDwhich is looking for the second sensor
it would cause oddities but id still think it'd show boost.
borrow an air pressure regulator or cyl leakdown tool and plumb directly to the map and send it 14psi and see what the PID shows.
the pcm will only trigger a code on the 5v or signal wire (open, short/out of bounds) and a high resistance short on the 5v is rarely detected unless it draws down the whole sensor bus below 4.5v
so if the sensor ground is hooked to the signal wire, youll never see positive voltage, and 5v is intact. the pcm will not see this, it is undiagnosable unless your running the more invasive 04+ stuff.
on board diagnostics generation II is not infallible and the map is one of the "trusted" sensors like the 02
Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
looks like i some how f ed up and copied his na map settings into the l67 bin. i must have dragged the whole fuel folder, cause hes got a lq4 maf and map is in the fuel folder. then it got over looked when i double checked it. could have sworn i did that folder file by file.
i just sent him a edited bin with the right map file. we will know in a bit if that fixed it.
Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
Hahaha
even the best of us have fat fingered ****
Re: Northstar TPS sensor part number?
yeah, i do suffer form sausage fingers in real life. kinda sucks tho. lot of wasted time cause of it.
