I thought this thread would've been closed by now lol. Now there's a chance I may have over tightened the oil filter. I remember using the filter removal tool to tighten it with, but I feel like I didn't do it that much. I know you're supposed to use your hands to tighten it, but it didn't feel tight enough. I do know it wasn't to the point where the filter wouldn't turn anymore. It isn't leaking or anything, but should I bee too concerned?

Be very concerned. You may not get it off the next time you need to. I would go out ASAP and loosen the filter, then tighten properly. End of concern.

That's tighten until snug and then an additional 3/4 turn?

I'll just loosen it a little as it is and leave it at that.

Warranty applies to mfg defects. I would think in this case, the counter guy has made an error and your warranty should stop when he gets caught and or fired. LOL

ive always been told the right way to install a filter is to wet the rubber ring with oil, then fill it when you can and screw it on till snug, then a 1/4 turn more.

to tight and the seal gets messed up and can blow out, to loose and yeah, it can leak too.

There is usually a graphic on the filter itself that shows you exactly what to do... usually hand tight then 1/4 turn or whatever it shows on the filter itself. Personally I just snug them with the oil filter wrench, after a lil oil on the ring just as Scotty described.

I think the most crucial part of any oil filter change is ensuring that the rubber ring came off with the old filter. I know a neighbor that installed a filter with the old rubber gasket still attached to the motor. His daughter drove it, oil leaked out between the gaskets, low oil light was ignored and engine was destroyed. He was pissed... but if you let an average woman use your car, your maintenance better be top-notch.

I agree with what impala and Scott said, I use wix filters since they are the same as the mobil1, K&N is also good. The big deal is about the oil, I loved AmSoil in my camaro, but I am not about to buy it for a cheap beater car.

K&N and mobile are the same. K&N just costs more.

Showing my wife her first oil change was hilarious. The filter didn't have the rubber o ring. No idea how I missed that but makes sense thinking back why she said "what o ring" when I told her put oil on it.
Let her start it up and I see a puddle of oil creep out towards my feet. She backs it up about 15 feet then sees me signal to STOP!
car still running, I said KILL IT , laughing my ass off.

My fault for not paying attention but the aftermath was a huge dic and balls oil stain on the driveway. Big round puddle where it started up , the long trail where it backed down the driveway and then the bigger puddle where she finally stopped and the rest of the oil came out. Hilarious.

I thought K&N was the same as well, I know one manufacturer made the top brands but i wasn't 100% sure if K&N was included. Thank you for clarifying.

Well I tried loosening it and I didn't want to go much harder as I was afraid I was gonna break the filter. Looks like I'm gonna have a fun time 3000 miles later . How tight do they have to be when the seals blow? I'm probably gonna have to buy one of those removers that crush the filter while removing it lol. F*ck me.
