keep in mind engine de greaser will make a stink once washed off and heated up. like a kerosene smell.
Oh yes. I drove it for about 20 minutes with city, country, and highway driving. Came home and still reeked of it! Like just standing outside the car you get strong whiffs of this stuff, and it's nasty. I don't know where it's coming from. How long does this stay because it's irritating lol.
Re: Looking to degrease my engine
a few days tops. it wears off.
ive been using crc brand, ive found it has way less smell then say foamy engine brite or other brands.
Re: Looking to degrease my engine
It still smokes which kind of freaks me out. At stops I get anxious because I think every time it's gonna start on fire or something. But there's nothing to worry about, right?
Re: Looking to degrease my engine
how much smoke? that should be over unless your just driving it around the block and parking it.
Re: Looking to degrease my engine
Smoke and steam are two very different things.
Re: Looking to degrease my engine
Umm I'm not sure because I didn't open the hood right away after driving. But at a stop light, I saw a whiff of smoke come out from the front. I'm not 100% it's still smoking, I just assumed because it smelled. If it is still smoking, should I rinse the engine again?

Even when excess coolant was burning off from the headers, it looked like steam. They look identical.
Re: Looking to degrease my engine
your not smelling oil then right?
id let it idle for a while let it get good and hot sitting there. you'll know if its leaking still or if its just the smell of de greaser.
Re: Looking to degrease my engine
I'm fairly positive it's the smell of degreaser. It has that really nasty smell and it almost smells the same as it did coming out of the can, but with a burning smell. One of the main reasons I degreased the engine was so I could see if oil was still leaking and after looking at the engine, it looks dry above the headers. From what I remember smelling when I started my car on fire, it's different than what I'm smelling now.
Re: Looking to degrease my engine
let it cool off and rinse it down one more time, cant hurt if the smell is that strong.
last time i recall smelling it for a good day tho.
Re: Looking to degrease my engine
cheap dollar store oven cleaner works great for engine grease and brake dust. spray it on , let sit 5 minutes , hose it off.

I have to go to work at 4:30 and just drove it so I'll rinse it off again tomorrow. I'll focus on the headers and the area around it.

Re: Looking to degrease my engine
I just went to the coin-op car wash. Put a few plastic bags over my intake, hosed everything down with tire cleaner from the spray wand, which is a rubber safe degreaser, then rinsed it all off with the pressure washer. Only problem was belt squeal for about 30 seconds.
Re: Looking to degrease my engine
Well it's not smoking anymore. It does still smell a bit, but it's not as strong before. I'll go ahead and leave it be. It'll eventually burn itself clean and if it doesnt, then I'll rinse it one more time.
