Got my GP ask today from the body shop after a front end accedent and I noticed they only had one hood shock or strut on the hood (left side) I'm not 100% sure I had one on each side before but I'm pretty sure. I questioned about it and he said no even though there is a ball and mount area on the hood send fender. So is the shop blowing smoke or is one shock correct. Thanks

An all steel hood needs two. A fiberglass hood on the other hand may only need one due to being lighter.

Its not unusually.. My 04 had two.. I broke the passenger side one and the hood won't stay up with just one.. Now when I went to the yard for a replacement found a 06 that only had one and hood was held up fine.

Its possible that some cars have aluminum hoods and just one strut as opposed to steel with two. Its possible that having the studs on both sides is a provision for right hand drive cars sold elsewhere. If it holds the hood up OK, no worries.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.

That's was my thing it has the provisions but they make cars parts so interchangeable for cost savings you never know

Actually found a photo before it went in. It doesn't have it

My 07 only had/has one. I keep it in the trunk and only put it in place when I work on the car because it slightly bows the fiberglass Inferno hood.

Ironically I think the Inferno is heavier than a stock hood.

While fixing my broken hood hinge today it reminded me that a had a 07 style shock..

04 on left 07 on right

07 has much larger shock and explains why some run a single one and while the 04 has two.
