does a bad intake gasket make the engine run hot? i am going to get the gasket fixed really soon. when i am letting it idle like i am at a drive thru and it gets really hot til the fans kick on. will replacing the intake gasket solve that issue? because the intake is leaking anti-freeze. i had it checked out while i was getting brake pads on and i asked him to check the leaking anti-freeze and he seen it come from the intake. not the Head gasket

I guess it's possible, but unlikely. Check your coolant level in the radiator, and make sure it's bled (screw on top of the tstat cover, crack it open while the car is up to temp and running). If it's still doing it, a tstat is only a few dollars and easy to replace (2 bolts). Intake gaskets on my regal were shot to hell, and it never got hot at all, same on my '98 se.

when he takes apart the intake i will get him to change the thermostat. what else it could be? i seen the belt needs change. the owner before changed the water pump so idk why it will get really hot 212 degrees hot
the radiator is not plugged. i am getting full movement in the lines. and it the lower intake gasket that is leaking

I could see an incorrect or incorrectly installed gasket doing it

I just assumed it was a '93 firebird with a 383, pictured the op ripping down the street sideways, mullet blowing in the wind, living the life. Then he got hungry, and it was time to haul ass to a drive thru, when he noticed the temps getting a little warmer than he'd like. His first thought was that such a beast wasn't meant to be sitting still, because his dyno sheet shows at idle not much hp is being made. Then he figured he'd better sign up here and ask about the intake gaskets, since our cars are notorious for them going bad, so we'd have the most experience in this field.
