Zip Tie Key Release Button

I tried searching on here for how to do this, but nothing really came up, just people said it's a little wire that breaks. For the entire time I've owned my car, I've had to use the key release button on the bottom of the steering column. So instead of using a pen every time I drive my car, I was wondering how to zip tie the button up. I saw on a post that someone did this so I know it can be done. Otherwise how do I remove the shift column to get access to the wire that's broken?

Just rip the little white solenoid out. Thats what I did.

The broken wire on mine was under the center console. At the bottom of the shifter. Easy fix.

Thats the part that I did end up zip tieing on my car.

I thought he was going to zip tie the button on the solenoid.

I would do that, but I don't have the little cap that goes over the hole. Guess I could find one at a junk yard. Thanks for the idea!

you can cut a straw, or break a small twig long enough to push the button with the little cap on too.

its easy enough to look for that broken wire off the shiftier plug tho.

The last one I bought (been driving it about 15 months) is missing the plug that holds the button up, and the lower column trim is loose on that side. BUT- since day one, it has had a rolled up business card jammed into the trim hole and holding the button up. Took it out once then was like... "Aw". Stuck it back in, not looking to borrow trouble. Works always, screw the pen thing. You could always hunt up the plug at a salvage yard and see if that gets you going. I think my GT still has the plug / pin / whatever it is, still in it if you need a pic to recognize it by. But if the trim is broken it may not hold the button up even with a correct pin installed. My only complaint is I rake the rubber square below the key loose sometimes because the trim isn't tight.

Fixed it! I took a long strip of electrical tape and rolled it up into a cylinder shape (just long enough so it would reach the button) and made the bottom end thicker so it would fit in hole and not come out. Seems to work and it's lodged in there good. I just need the little tab to cover the hole and I will be golden. Thanks guys!

That rubber square is a life saver lol! Not really though, my key fob sometimes hits the edge of it where it isn't rubber and it's annoying! Glad that rubber is there otherwise I'd here click click click every time I would drive haha.

I made a button to press every time instead of a pen, works reall really good
