Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0
so last week I noticed a trans fluid smell for a sec two. Didn't think anything of it since I was on the highway. well after a few hours of driving I get home to discover a leaking or should I say pouring trans fluid coming from bell housing area. Took it in to a shop since I don't have the tools for the repair. Trans shop says trans shifts great and is really firm(I like hearing this) but they need to drop motor to see if its just the seal. At this point it seems that way. Oh well $525 labor, filter, fluid, and cooler. Now I need my car before I leave on Wednesday or im facked lol
Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0
I bet your trans pump seal is shot.
I remember many years ago I was driving home at 1 am in my Bronco II. I got off the highway, got to the end of the off ramp, and as I went to pull away I noticed the trans slip. There is another intersection 1/8 mile from where I get off so I had to stop again. A car approached me from my right and I saw that the entire vehicle was surrounded by white smoke. It almost looked like an alien space craft. LOL
Anyway, I couldn't just leave it where I was so I tried to pull out and it slipped, but started moving again. I grabbed my phone and called my dad to tell him what was happening and a few seconds later it lost all forward momentum, so I drifted into an open parking lot. I got out and looked underneath and trans fluid was pouring from the bellhousing.
My dad came and picked me up. We went back the next day and towed it home. We put a front pump seal in it and it lasted less than a week. I ended up having to put a used trans in it.

As cool as that would be, what good is a hood light that goes off after 15 minutes? When you are going to be working for an hour? The trunk light does this and it pissed me off!
I was going to do the pin-switch thing (already one there), but after some thinking, I came to the conclusion that 80% of the time the hood is up, I won't even need the light, so why have it on?

I was thinking a photo sensor in series with the pin switch. But then as soon as the light came on it would turn the light back off, oops. Unless the sensor was out of the light, grill maybe?

Again, cool, but for a light that is rarely going to be used, the manual switch does the job. Sometimes you just need to K.I.S.S. :th_thumbsup-wink:

yeah trans shop just called anywho, at this point the pan contents looked abnormally well for 113k, filter a tad dirty but that is expected. they say if drives fine and shift great. Hopefully I caught in time so nothing crazy happened.

For sure! Your setup is perfect. Just fun to think about taking it to the next level...though I never will :) I wouldn't mind having the strip lights though, think I'd like a couple more, maybe one on firewall and on each side of engine. Can never have too much light when you really need it!

Ya, I like it how it is. This project has been in my head for about 6 months, so I've ran through every wiring scenario. Decided to keep it simple for a change.

FWIW back in teh bonneville days I put the late 80's Chevy Pickup underhood light into the trunk. You can walk around the car and stick the magnet end of it on any metal surface.

I love those lights. I had one in the back of the Bronco for airing up and trail-repairs. Great light!
When i first got the GP, it had no trunk light, so I got one of these.....

Well so far I ran it though a touchless car wash because I had a code for a wash that I bought months ago and never used and the car was filthy. I stopped at Advance and got rear rotors, rear pads, and a left rear caliper, as well as stuff to do an oil change and some detailing/car wash supplies.
I came home and so far have gotten the oil changed. Need to run to the bank, then I'll come back and start on the brakes.

not my car, but a stander lawn mower thats been the victim of rape over the last 2 years, ( all its parts were taken to keep another one running) well its thief of a twin was replaced last summer, so i took all the stolen parts back, gaped the coils with a chunk of denny trim metal lol it was all i had. ( whats used for window trim metal on houses) and it looked like it was as thick as a old business card. and dont ya know it likes that gap a lot. being a twin piston and all. took the new carb off the old beater and its voltage regulator.
got all that crap bolted back on, and went to fire it up, it cranked a few times and nothing, then im like, oh! the choke!!!, i pulled the choke to full, it fired up with a flick of the key.....success!!!!! all it needs is a pto for the blades and its back on the mowing circuit lol

Jammed Slayer and enjoyed looking at my pretty airbag covers at stoplights plus rolled past 216K. Now you know why I want my GT back, it went past 178K the other day and is a SIR virgin.

Thats both cars, right? JK. Thats the plan. Me possibly not being the guy who swaps them is a matter of logistics. Rack and CAs are still on the 02 frame and if it bolts up (isn't also crooked) thats straight enough for me. Don't wanna use that rack but will try with control arms although one of those was tow-hooked to invert the car and is bent at that big hole in the middle. Tie downs are bent on the frame but hopefully the rest of it is OK.
