Saw this 2005 GXP for sale about 3.5 hours away from me. Its been up there for a while and at that price makes me leery to make the drive.

    Here is the link: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/e...ationFlag=true

Anyways, I know nothing about the 04+ style vehicles. All my Prixs have been 97-03. The guy says the new tranny was replaced by a GM tech and has 20k KM's on it. All I know is these trannys go at 100,00 usually.

What else should I dig into on this car? 15" rims and tires for the winter set seems odd when the factory are 18"?

    Thanks everyone.

Do the strut towers rust? are the rockers prone to rust like 97-03? LIM failure? I just want to make sure I cover everything I can when I go take a peak. Its a really good price... All highway Kms as he's in the boonies.

I believe the trans is still the 4T65E, so the usual shift kit and cooler will keep it lasting.

15" rims for snowies, makes sense. He probably got them cheap.

The price is low. The same car out here is 6-11K.

Thanks for the reply. I know. Lowest one I've seen is 6800 bucks here and it was gone same day. I wonder if its just his location or what. Can't hurt to take a drive tho.

Do these have less Gremlins then the 3800? I cant find a buyers guide on here for the GXP like there is for the 3800.

15 inch rims will not fit.over the gxp calipers so that cannot be right. Transmission is the biggest issue with these. Does the trans have a warranty?

Yeah, I asked him. must mean 16" GP rims. Also asked if there is warranty on the new tranny.

he sent me some additional pictures. No real rust in the wheel wells. Do the rockers go on these? thats all im concerned about. I can do mechanical fixes (MINUS THE TRANNY) but a rotten body is not something I'll take on.

    Power steering needs addressed.

Transmission needs cooler, shift kit, ASAP.

You need to get the car tuned and have the DOD shut off ASAP to avoid any blow by or oil loss down the road.

15"s will never work because of the massive brakes. I honestly don't even think 16's will clear the fronts, pretty sure they have to be 18's. Rockers don't rust as far as I know. Other than those few quirks...they're a pretty fun car. Just don't expect the gas mileage to be worth a crap, lol.

I paid $10k~ for my '05...but it barely had over 50k miles on it.

16 inch will.not fit over the fronts calipers either..theybwould have to be at least 17s. My 05 lives in chicago winters. I have no rust issues with rockers. The gxps burn through front wheel bearings bit that is really the only other mechanican issue. I have 110k on mine no real issues. The ls motor is bulletproof as well. Put a trans cooler and shift kit in you should be good.
Other things are the front tires are wider than.the rear, there is no spare tire, the hud display usually breaks because the spring inside it comes loose, the exhaust tends to rust out faster than normal, they do.not.make the bilstein struts to replace the stock.

All I can say is that the 5.3 is generally a good engine. I have lots of buddys that use them in their rock-buggys.

Good to know thanks guys. Tranny cooler, shift kit, tune. Nice and straightforward.

If I land this I'm sure going to miss the ol LIM job. Could probably do it in my sleep by now!

I hear you x1000000000000 on the LIM job, doing a set this weekend, LOL.

Enjoy ever changing the serpentine belt if you have to...it's about 110% ignorance to the max.

Also; clean the throttle body when you get it. Those DBW non-cable TB's like to gunk up over the years. I'd also suggest a single poly square/bushing upper dog bone mount. Helps really hold that big ol' mother in place. High-flow air filter is good too (stock box flows great), as the downpipe is the only thing that needs to be replaced. My 3" catted ZZP downpipe fit perfectly and didn't even hardly change the exhaust note, which was fine for me since I just deleted the resonator for more noise.
