on the double rollers the magnet hole is a little over sized...what you need to do is bend the metal tangs outward a hair so that they can not pop back out of the gear
you didnt bend em out far enough, the ****ers put a chamfer on the hole so the tangs must be spread far enough that with it slid to one side the tang isnt near the chamfer
I really want them to correctly ****ing machine the double rollers because I don't see the holden magnet being a larger diameter than ours
I think ive got it figured out.....turns out its just my stupidity. When i bought the short block the balance shaft was already deleted and i didnt think about the fact that i needed a spacer behind the cam gear (single roller) and of course this stupidity allowed the cam gear to move around to much and knock the magnet out and screw up the cam gear and break the cam key. Fortunately i caught it in time before it did any major damage. So long story short a new double roller is here along with a new cam key and magnet, so its reassembly time.
Make damn sure you properly machine that double roller. Lookup chamfer and Jame's name for info.
Ok ive been reading the info on the chamfer on clubgp that turbo400 has posted and i understand the issue (i think) but i dont have a local machine shop to help me out, can i send my stuff to someone on here that knows what they are doing and have it done?
Yeah but it still holds the cam key well, i filed off any burs on the edges to make sure the new gear goes on smoothly. Feeling pretty dumb about the whole thing but oh well, i wont make that mistake again.
Selliott, you are correct. Balance shaft drive gear is missing. The gear sandwiches the magnet between the cam gear.without the balance shaft drive gear excessive camshaft end play will allow the cam to walk back and forth. Check the balance shaft rear bearing, there is a oil galley that feeds the rear bearing.the bearing must be installed in a way to block the oil galley if the shaft is deleted.
Yeah i didnt even think about the cam gear, it is a short block from zzp and it came already deleted. I now have a double roller for it i just need to have the chamfer machined on the crank gear, hopefully i can get it done next week. I assume that zzp blocked the oil galley but you know what assuming does. What am i looking for?
[QUOTE=selliott;1293945]So after doing some research the oil galley is plugged[/QUOTE
Balance shaft uses two bearings. Front is a roller type, rear is similar to the camshaft bearing. With a balance shaft delete, rear oil feed gallery is open, the rear bearing is installed to block the oil feed in the block.
One thought, the camshaft woodruff key damaged area. I would recommend replacing the camshaft and timing gear. If it fails, catastrophic engine fail will happen. Any movement on that little key will cause it to break.
