found a 04 gt with 166K miles for 2800 listed price.

I told him i would be in the 2300 range, he said its leaking a little coolant, no oil leaks.

new tires/battery, is around 2300 worth it for this car? i think the book value is around 3100 but the coolant leak could it just be a hose?

Or the coolant leak be a coolant elbow, coolant tank or your thoughts?

Could be anything from a hose to a head gasket... The only way to tell is to look around and find it. We can't diagnose a coolant leak looking at a computer screen, especially with no details at all.

That said the price seems good as long as there's nothing major wrong with it.

Step one.. look at coolant elbow, notice it's soaked. Smile and buy it.
Step two.. wonder why the other guys are suggesting a head gasket on a motor that is least likely to ever have one go.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Hey buddy, I've had a head gasket issue on my orignal motor from my 97. One of the jackets was busted and collant leaked outside of the egde of the head down the side of the block. Luckily not on the inside

Went and got it for 2300, as far as i could tell the coolant level was right where it had to be at. Coolant elbow had a little moisture on each of the ends, i dont think it came from there if it did leak coolant.

A good mechanic will check everything and not write off possibilities. I'd rather tell this guy it COULD be a head gasket than say "it's not that, don't worry about it" when it is perfectly within the realm of possibility. Maybe the PO overheated it or something, there's no way of knowing.

I'd say for parts that have moisture on them, clean them off with some degreaser then chack back on them in a couple days to see if the moisture has returned. There could be a really slow leak at the elbow seals or somewhere else.

Both of those are rather common so I wouldn't be surprised.

Is there anyway to tell exactly where the leak is coming from? I could not see any oil, and did not notice any oil in my garage when it sat for 2 hours. Ill warm it up and put it back in the garage tomorrow and let it sit for most of the day and see, but from what i can tell, it may of been leaking a very tiny amount of oil, but not to where i need to get the gaskets do all the work and waste a good days or so work. Ive never done this and i feel like it will take me a LONG time to do.
