dimming door/dome lights

This is a wierd one. So now none of the lights come on when I open any of the doors. They come on intermittenly, but 8 times out of 10 they don't. The lights do come on if I turn the key to the "ON" position.

So the lights clearly work. This just started yesterday out of no where. They're LED blue bulbs. I haven't had time to really check everything but I did check the lil fuse box on the side of the glove department and they're all good.

Whatever it is it's intermitent and it just started randomly yesterday night. Lights clearly work but the source of this problem has to be the main wire that's feeding power to all the dome lights bc none of them come on when a door is opened. Maybe it's a simple sensor that's the main culprit but im not sure at this point.

Any ideas would help a lot....THANKS

Do you have a DIC? When you open the doors, do they show as open on the DIC?

Check for power at one of the sockets.
Then .. look up the trigger at the BCM and check if the appropriate input is being received, if no.. trace back from there.

is there a schematic for finding this trigger(not fully sure where the BCM is located) or is there an easier way for checking this?

And are you referring to the actual dome light bulb sockets or the door socket/electrical connection itself?

Does seem like the door sensor/connection is getting stuck or something bc this morning upon opening the door the lights came right on but dimmed out within a minute(a lil sooner than the actual dimming time once closing the doors when working properly). sometimes the lights stay on for the entire dimming delaying time.

So im messing around with the dimming lights(no schematics nor desire to bother with electrical components) but I open the door and as expected none of the lights come on.

So I manuever the rearview mirror to see if the rearview mirror lights come on and they dont as always but the rest of the dome lights came on almost instantly.

Unfortunately the rearview mirror has been doing this for a while, apparently bc of the loose connection between the wire connector and rear view mirror itself. Mirror works if I move and play with it but im not sure if I need a new mirror or the wire connector itself.

Long story short, I think the dome lights and rearview mirror lights are being powered by the same power wire(probaly ground wire on our cars).

If they're not on the same power wire I do think that at least one of the rearview mirror functions share a power wire with the dome lights bc as I mentioned the dome lights came on immediately after repositioning the rearview mirror.

Weird bc the rearview mirror has been not working unless I played with it and the dome lights just started acting dumb after I installed new L.E D. Bulbs(same size and connection).

Tricky bc the rearview mirror lights are suppose to come on with the rest of the dome lights. So my lights are just intermitently going out when they want.....lol bugging me

Since swapping to LED (when I got it) I've recently had some odd behavior from one or two rear dome lights. Like one stays on. Likely it's the lack of resistance that LED's have vs a regular bulb.

Makes sense, but none of my damn lights come on. They should either come on or not. The resistance of the LEDs are what they are (lower) and its not like theyre changing so this intermittent on/off stuff shouldn't be happening. They should just stay off....
Good thing I saved my halogen bulbs. Funny bc LEDs are suppose to be much better, oppose to this restarted irritating issue

Some people put in resistors to load the feeding circuit. Who knows..maybe the BCM is pissy. At this point my car is 15 years old with 243K miles. I expect a glitch or two.

How's that airbag light BTW?

Still on LOL, it went off for a good day but then came back on....these lil tiny issues are what irk me, but taking apart a engine block is like a coping skill and or therapy...lol

Hey Bill, will Canbus load resistor bulbs work? They're the same 194-5SMD-W-AGT but with resistors intergrated.

Would these keep the dimming lights from remaining off when opening the car doors?

You think Canbus bulbs with intergrated load resistors would work?

I know cars like foreign expensive ones, their lights sometimes operate via CAN Controller area Network so they need it to keep the MIL from flashing on.

In my case I would need it just for the load itself so they can operate properly

I think I solved the problem, I put stronger bulbs in from DDM Tuning. No more intermittent cutting off or flickering. Just hope these bulbs last as claimed

Dee.. sorry I didn't see your questions. I wouldn't know the answer though. I've only put in the one set and occasionally get an issue. Like I said.. at 246K, I expect a few issues. Like the ps pump. Gotta change her out soon.
