You guys think the stock harmonic balancer is in need of immediate upgrading once you start modding?

Or better yet what WHP is the stock dampner limited to before the motor vibrates to pieces?
Not your average grocery getter, but theres always at least two things on the list.... 10w-30 Castrol Titanium and Shell 91 premium mixed with a lil 100 octane racing gas......

SFI balancer is needed once you hit 10's.

You can upgrade to a better stock replacement if you want

Damn....10s though, lol ill be lucky to hit mid 12s sticking with my Gen5 set up.

So will installing a SFI dampner (probably from ZZP) cause any issues since im not in the 10s or would it still be beneficial?

you'll have a more stable upper RPM range because it's weighted better than the stock one.

otherwise you won't notice much out of it unless you're going for the overdrive pulley.

Been looking into the powerbond balancer for the overdrive. Not sure how well there made, I'm sure there's a few people on here that can chime in about them. Im going to replace my stocker car has 130,000 plus its off for a cam swap. Otherwise i don't think i would bother.

I bought the ZZP SFI Balancer which is a Powerbond. So far Gp seems fine. Haven't raced it yet. Not till the fall

Wait, your saying the SFI dampner from ZZP is a Underdrive pulley itself or I would have to make the rest of the pullies(WP,ALT) underdrive to feel a difference?

yeah but not only is my stock damper MILES old, yes I only want it for stability and the extra strength(for my build). I would put a new stock one back on but why not go with something better, you know.....

ZZP sells both overdrive and stock.

I bought stock. No oil neck needed

Yeah I was never a fan of the overdrive and underdrive pullies, I think the upgraded PowerBond would be great or better yet I should say enough for my build.........though I wouldn't mind a oil neck spacer for the SFI until as long as the spacer doesn't interfere with anything else. The play room with the SFI would be less mind bothering when playing around at high speeds

But again im doing this more for less vibration and more durability.

I know balancing the engine is one thing (correctly that is.....all out) more money and definitely better, but could a upgraded dampner be a cheap alternative to balancing an engine?

you'd do an overdrive because you ran out of pulleys to use on the blower.

I would benefit from the 5% overdrive dampner regardless right? I mean as long as I bolt it on that power should be there rather 3" or 2.5" pulley is on the blower, right?

benefit would be dependent on the rest of the setup, but it can't hurt (unless you start knocking again).

So the SFI dampner is not the same as getting the motor actually balanced(not that big of a deal anyway unless your Jeff Gordon in a Nascar race) but could it act as a cheap alternative?

I don't know, maybe having less vibration at higher RPMs could make it seem like you had your motor balanced by having a pretty decent aftermarket dampner
