My 99 GP GTP manual says not to tow with the car. How about a bike/bike trailer that weighs about 800 pounds? Transmission professionally rebuilt about 5k miles ago. Maybe add a trans cooler to be safe?

Manual says no, still asking. Hmmm
They do make hitches, personally...I'm a rebel and I'd do it with F body brake upgrade and I'd start by watching my trans temp. If they stay nice.. ehhhh who cares the car will take 800-1000 lbs of people and cargo from the factory. That trailer shouldn't stress it as long as you don't have a car full plus trailer. If temps get hot.. put a cooler on.
I would run a cooler at a minimum. Often times with towing, its not the weight but the wind resistance. You can't base it solely on weight. More info on the trailer and such would help.

Here is a link of my towing experiences - I'd breeze through this as there is some very good discussion: http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...-Need-Opinions
Your car likely does NOT have the hardened 4th gear hub which may be more likely to fail under a towing situation (unless a hardened version was installed during the rebuild) . If you read the thread you'll see 02GPinNY was likely in a similar scenario as you and was able to tow with success. Drive slowly and potentially shift the car into 3 to keep it out of 4th gear.
If you decide to tow, I would strongly recommend a transmission cooler (you'll want some way to monitor transmission temps) and I'd encourage you to install a Transgo shift kit. This will keep your transmission temps low and quicken shift times. If there was any evidence of damage to my transmission it was excessive clutch material from the relatively slow shifts (stock) while towing.
^This is spot on. Think about pulling a 5 pound rock through water compared to an open umbrella. If you have an open trailer with just a motorcycle, I would venture to say you don't have too much wind resistance to worry about. I wouldn't go any faster than 65 though.
Hope this helps!
In the long run it's probably just not worth the risk. It would just look so much cooler than my 4.0L Ranger but hey it works.
Thanks to all.
I hauled 1200lbs. of flooring tile in my GTP 700 miles with no ill effects. Other than driving more conservative and planning my stops further in advance, It was all interstate driving too, at 70-80 mph, really not much different than a load of passengers and luggage. One thing to be aware of with the L67, you do not want drive continuously while in boost.
But the difference is the wind resistance and drag. Iv drove my dads car with like 900lbs+ worth of people and crap in it. The rear suspension was bottoming out on a pebble and the car had no power, N/a with the AC on and lots of 4th occelation.

You can.........im sure the suspension would shoot itself tho......

No honestly the ranger would look cooler I point and laugh when I see a car pulling a trailer haha[/QUOTE]
I think you're right. The GP looks great all by itself goin' down the road.
I believe the owners manual from a gp gt says towing is allowed...(up to 1k lbs) whereas a gtp it is not. Main difference is the supercharger keeping the car in boost depending on the actual load, towing increases load making chances higher for cruising in boost.
The 4th clutch hub was not in mind at all when that was written, but seeing as yours is rebuilt, it should be the updated part anyway. And of course trans temps will be higher when towing in the city.
Good explanation. Thanks.
