Re: 2004-2008 Grand Prix's RECALLED for the Ignition
Finally. I actually accidentally turned mine off fortunately I was only 50 feet out of my drive way both times. I thought they woulld get out of it because the switch is on the dashboard. Dangerous if it happened on the road the brakes go out and you cant turn it back on until you put it in park.
Re: Here it is all.......
Can't you start the car in neutral?

I don't see why not.
Re: Here it is all.......
What I thought, he stated you only could in park. Either way, im waiting for the 97-03 recalls. Hell they might as well recall every vehicle they ever made at this rate.
2004-2008 Grand Prix's RECALLED for the Ignition
So you can take it to the dealership and the same guy that did your alignment and screwed it up can screw it up again when your going in for a set of keys ^_^
Re: Here it is all.......
I'll go to another place or continue to not care because its been fine for the past 14 years
Re: 2004-2008 Grand Prix's RECALLED for the Ignition
if you were backing up and this happened as you needed to stop theres no way your getting it in to N then restated in time.
Re: Here it is all.......
I guess just kiss your ass goodbye or hope you hit something soft like people or animals
Re: 2004-2008 Grand Prix's RECALLED for the Ignition
id rather not hit a living thing.
a person can really do some damage lol
Re: 2004-2008 Grand Prix's RECALLED for the Ignition
I have two keys and a fob together. And i'm not that tall where my knee would bump anything at all. I'll take my chances.
On the other hand, hey, free second key to my car!
Re: 2004-2008 Grand Prix's RECALLED for the Ignition
Both times I was in reverse I tried putting it in Neutral but it wouldn't crank. I put it in park and had to start all over. I felt more embarrassed than actually scared.

The brakes don't go out. They just aren't power assisted. A little force and you'd stop
Re: 2004-2008 Grand Prix's RECALLED for the Ignition
Also, lots of times I've been able to shut her down while cruising, slip into neutral and then restart and continue cruising.

Exactly. This is why I have an issue with GM being held responsible for the deaths of those that had their car shut off.
#1 if they didn't have too much weight on the key chain to begin with, it wouldn't have happened.
#2 if they knew ANYTHING about how to drive they would have been able to stop the car safely
This is no different than the Toyota "unintended acceleration" issue. Funny how an independent study showed that in something like 98% of those cases the brakes were never touched and the throttle was at 100%. That means that in those cases it was user error. Someone panicked and hit the gas instead of the brake.
It is also a fact that the engine cannot overpower the brakes, so if the gas pedal were stuck at 100% throttle, the brakes would still stop it.
And yes, if the car stalls while moving, you can easily put it in neutral and start it while still rolling.

The Toyota thing I dont see why the car couldn't be put into neutral then it would stop going forward. Unless the computer wouldn't shift the car because it was at WOT and such.
Re: 2004-2008 Grand Prix's RECALLED for the Ignition
That was another solution. Again, is those people had any idea about how to drive it never would have been an issue.
Hell I remember when I had the gas pedal get stuck under the floor mat in my dad's Cherokee. I was doing 45 mph and was coming up on stopped traffic. I didn't panic. I threw it into neutral, hit the brake with my left foot and pulled the mat out of the throttle with my right foot.
I guess if I crashed I could have sued Jeep.

Exactly. Brakes still work with a little bit of force and you should be able to maneuver your car enough to get you to safety. The idiots who can't well you shouldn't be driving.

Its like natural selection really or is that too harsh

I don't consider it harsh. Nothing was ever taught to me, other than basic driving. I figured things out on my own by making mistakes here and there, though honestly, most of the stuff came to me naturally. I am still amazed at some of the situations I have gotten myself out of unscathed by only making a quick decision and going with it.
