So my son totaled his '04 GT on Tuesday. Just before the accident he had filled the gas tank. So we are wanting to siphon out the gas. Does anyone know if the filler neck has any type of anti-siphon device in the neck? I know I can remove the fuel pump and siphon from there but would rather just do it from the filler neck if it is possible

They have a screen, you won't be able to get a tube in there.

Gas is really liquid gold isnt it. Just pull the pump and do it that way, depending on the size of the screen idk if you could just jam something through it.

just had a thought, take the fuel line off the fuel rail and then turn the key to run, gas will pump out the line into a can or what ever you got, another car? if you cut the line, im sure you can push a rubber line onto it. then lead it to the other tank.

Okay then thanks guys. Scotty will that actually work? Does the fuel pump work the full time that the engine is cranking? And I am not sure that the battery / starter will endure pumping 17 gallons of gas. I will just pull the pump and be done with it.

the injectors shut off. the pump is always pushing line pressure.

Well if I can get the hood open I may just try this. Would definitely be easier than swallowing gas

if you have a fuel filter on this car, you pop off the plastic clips side on the filter, and push a hose on the tube there, that would also work.

Okay so here is how we did it. I found a video on how to do this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WRYOv80DZs. I had to do it a little different though since the return hose nipple had been broken off in the accident. What I did was lower the rear seats and removed the fuel pump access cover in the trunk. I removed the fuel outlet hose (rear most hose) and attached a clear rubber hose to the pump. I turned the key on but the pump only ran briefly. So I followed the video and removed the fuel pump relay and installed a jumper wire from pin 30 to pin 87. The pump ran constant and we pumped the gas from the Grand Prix right into the tank of the Impala. Way faster and easier than siphoning into a gas can and then transferring into the tank. And no gas aftertaste to deal with. Thanks Scotty for the heads up. I would have never thought of doing this without your help. I think I am going to hang around here even though the GP is gone. Great bunch of guys here

Oh I forgot to add that there is indeed some obstruction in the filler neck. The siphon hose seemed to stop just before entering the tank

that new cars engine is used in GP's and the body has about the same issues, so stick around, you'll still find help here.

I plan to. The Impala forums are informative but there is way less traffic over there. So finding answers is not so easy. Plus it seems that there are a lot of folks that ask one question, find there answer, never post the end result, and then are gone forever. I do believe that this forum will help me a lot more than the Impala forums will be able to

same reason im over here yet own a regal lol the regal site is rather dead and slow.

the car specific sites are real good for how to's for stuff that only applies to that car tho. interior work and stuff like that.

The pump turns off too. Jump the relay and it'll pump constant.

Well if the car is totalled why not just punch the screen out? Or drop the tank with the filler neck on it. And doesn't 04 still have trunk access to the pump?

IIRC the screen is part of the fuel tank where the hose connects. So pain to punch through. Running the pump would go pretty easy.
