It seems I have accidentally bought a 2000 GTP with the gold appearance package.
I just thought the wheels were discolored, but it is a gold tint.
I had the intention of making this car all black with chrome and blue accents, but the gold puts a wrench in that since the wheels are not a chrome color, but a somewhere-between-gold-and-polished-aluminum color.
Now, I could always buy new wheels and de-badge and all that and have the car I envisioned. The car was not expensive and I'll probably drive it until I have to push it into a hole, so no harm done.
What strikes me, though, is the apparent rarity of this package. Examples and information are extremely hard to find. I know it's just a gold stripe, badges, and wheels, but it seems I have something here that is uncommon.
It feels like, by removing the gold stripe, I'm killing off something special. Pin striping is fairly easy to replace, but original is always better. I could probably sell the wheels. Somebody will want them, but then I've ruined the chances of returning it back to that rare gold package car that might be more valuable.
So, what do I do? Embrace the gold and be satisfied that I have something that is somewhat uncommon, or satisfy my vision of the car I had in mind when I bought this one, not knowing it was anything special?
Any information on production numbers of this option (Y11) or potential value is appreciated.
And hey, show off your gold if you got it!
