Hello people, I want to make my 1999 SE 3800 Grand Prix have two mufflers. I know it's not "dual" exhaust but if I add another muffler wouldn't it be louder? I went to two shops, one of them told me they'll weld a y-pipe on the pipe before the muffler and run it to the other side where there would naturally be another muffler on the GT/GTPs. The other one said it's not worth it. The car wouldn't have a louder sound. He said it'll sound like a motorcycle since it's a V6. I don't want it to sound too ricy, ricey, arroz. He said he can delete the resonator and put a straight pipe, but from what I heard that causes a drone sound. Will it cause a drone sound on a car that has one muffler, anyone have experience with this? I already have a magnaflow on it and I heard GTs and GTPs that have two magnaflow mufflers and they sound nice. I'm wanting a nice deep, mellow tone, with more than what I have now. If I go the y-pipe route on the pipe before the muffler would I achieve that sound, or is there something else to it. Thanks. I linked a video to my car and the way it sounds now.

I think you can get away with getting the dual exhaust off a GTP or GT could probably find a decent one in a junk yard or you could buy new off ebay. It should bolt right up off the stock DP. If you need to replace your res use a glasspack in place of it, for mufflers just search exhuast vids on youtube. Most with say Borla or GTFO.

truth is, that sounds pretty good as is, what muffler you got now?

with dual's you may get that raspy sound, and the popping when you let off the gas.

my gs has a single muffler. i thought about the dual set up, now im leaning more towards a full 3 inch cat back now.

I have a Magnaflow #11225. The dude at the shop said for better sound on two mufflers to get some Magnaflow Bullets. I don't want to replace the muffler I already replaced you know. How much do catback systems usually go for? The guy at the shop quoted me $95 to y pipe and and weld the new muffler on there.

all you should need is the new Y pipe. and the 2 new mufflers.

you also need the hanger bracket form a dual exhaust car for the driver side muffler hangers.

New with stock res and mufflers on ebay are like 230-240 + shipping. You could try a junkyard find one not completely rusted to hell for cheap. http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-02-Grand-...17438b&vxp=mtr

EDIT: I would do what scotty said.

I'll go to the junkyard and see what I can saw off of a 3800 w body. That's a true dual system right, the one on eBay and the one's in the junkyards. Compared to what the shop was going to do (weld a y-pipe on the pipe before the muffler). Should I try and do that y-pipe version as opposed to the shop just welding their y-pipe on the pipe before the muffler?

Not true dual it Y's just like the muffler guy would do. I only say try a junk yard because you can bolt it right up to your car after you try to unbolt it from JY car and it should be cheap. You would just need to do hanger brackets for the left side, unsure of the right if it will be fine or not.

this is what you need, pipe wise, the part at the top of the pic would go to the res.

I see, I looked under my car to see if it had some rings or placements at least, and it doesn't. So, I'll have to see what the shop can do as far as mounts goes, or what I can do.

if you look close at the pass side muffler you'll see the bracket is bolted up there, the other side has the holes for it. all you would need is a bracket and the bolts. and 2 rubber hangers.

tight, tight, tight. Cool. I wasn't sure if that was the way to go as far as mounting them. Now to see if any local junkyards have them. Houston isn't the best place to find w bodies intact. And I'll want to make sure they're straight since I don't have a GT/GTP bumper. I posted on WTB for one of those bumpers but shipping is turrible. And the junkyard's bumpers look like they've been through a blender and Guantanamo. Maybe a new batch will appear, and I have seen some nice GPs there before. like two.

i know how that feels. the last owners just couldn't parallel park and the bumper was torn up good, also had zero shine left to it.

50 bucks in bumper filler, paint and prep stuff and a few hours time it now looks like this.

ive never painted before really either. all rattle can duplicolor.

Nice job man. I might have a sale with someone who is parting out a gt on Craigslist. They bought it as a parts car. I might paint a little bit and see how it comes out since its gonna sit for a while and won't be on the car yet.
