Anybody ever have the forward apply band let go? Mine just broke and was wondering how common it is.

    Fairly common failure to have.

Band breaks and you can only move when forced down into 1-2 with the shifter.

Yep. So now I'm looking at an entire rebuild to beef up the trans a little

    From triple edge performance

From left to right you will see a band with a broken off and missing apply lug just as the above picture shows, next a fractured band, and to the right is a band in good condition.

I guess what I meant was what causes the failure.

I wouldnt call it a design flaw but it's just a part from the factory that can wear out and become weaker over time and then break.

A stronger design has been made in recent past to pretty much stop future failures.

Even dave at TEP doesnt say an exact answer, but I'm sure age and combination of a few other things inside the transmission cause it.

Some have blamed the transmission going into max adapt repetitively makes it more likely since the newer transmissions with the updated pcs has a lower failure rate of the forward apply band. But they can break too, so who knows.

It is engaged by a soleniod pushing on it to apply it. Each time you engage/disengage that band is flexed.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
