I don't know if this is normal but I wanted to get to the bottom of this. If I ever go over a bump in the road (more pronounced at higher speeds), my car seems to "hop" a little bit to the side. This is especially annoying when I'm on the highway and the bump is on a curve, so as I'm turning, my car jumps a decent bit. Is this normal? If not, what is wrong here? If it is normal, will a better sway bar/strut tower braces fix this?

My car will jump to the side a little if i'm going over a bump on a curve on the highway but it only slightly does. If i'm just driving normal and go over a bump it doesn't happen. Have you checked to see if your front swaybar is cracked where the links are?

I didn't get a chance to remove the wheels to get a better look but from what I can see, it looks fine. It's a 2007 though and the previous owners were an elderly couple (apparently they drove it so slow that the computer recorded an avg of 24mpg ) so I wouldn't expect the sway bar to be cracking yet. My old Passat used to do the same but that went away as soon as I put a strut tower brace on it.

I don't think i've really had a problem with mine "hopping" unless i'm going around a turn over a bump. From what i've seen 24 mpg is pretty normal, i'm usually around 24-27

My 97 did that, sometimes it would hop so much the low trac light would come on.

Seriously??? I barely even get anywhere near 27mpg on the highway, how is your DIC telling you that you get 24-27 avg?

Year, make, mileage? Granny driving it doesn't matter. What matters is the mileage or age of suspension components. More info. Required!

And moving laterally when slightly airborne is normal @ higher speeds mainly due to being out of contact with the ground for a longer period of time. Lolz

Otherwise, yeah, probably some worn stuff. Swaybar, swaybar bushings, struts, control arm bushings, etc...

Sir, I got a 2007, base boy, 83k mileages. I've never had a car that hopped like this, it seems kinda dangerous to be honest. Struts seem fine, same with sway bars. Can't comment on the control arms because I haven't looked at them yet.
I was reading something about how lowered cars tend to "pogo" because of the top plate washers and found this http://shop.zzperformance.com/store/...o-Washers.aspx
Is it possible for a non-lowered car to pogo? Is what I'm describing even a pogo??
