Hey guys I have an '02 3.1L GP. A while back I got the check engine light saying vac leak (440). Since I remember not closing the gas cap all the way earlier, I assumed it was that, but I replaced the cap with a new one anyway and reset the light. Then about a week later the light came back on with the same code: vac leak (440). But I don't think it's the gas cap because a) it's new and b) there is a strong smell of gas in the car when idling. Any ideas?

A vac leak is under the hood. Check the rubber hoses, plastic pieces, etc. the fuel smell is from the car running pig rich.

it never was the gas cap. (Perhaps someone has a vacuum diagram of the 3.1?)

If you have a strong smell of gas, look for the source of the smell. P0440 is generally described as a large evaporative emissions leak. A fuel leak can cause the gas smell and the P0440.

There's no fuel leak, no decrease in fuel economy. The car is also not running rich—again fuel economy is good and there is no roughness. Must be somewhere with fuel vapors. EVAP canister? I think the purge solenoid could be right
