I have a 2001 Grand Prix GT. On my DIC, oil life is by percentage. How is this value computed. Is it based on actual
Viscosity, mileage driven or time since the last oil change. The new oils are designed to hold their viscosity much
longer. Can any one tell me how this % is determined?

It uses a combination of temperature, driving style, and mileage to compute the percentage iirc

    No it can't determine viscosity...

I think its by the amount of miles driven between the last time it was reset.

As mrlogic stated, it is based on driving style, mileage, etc. Word of advice though, don't go by the percentage. If I went by the percentage on the oil life monitor I could go 10,000 miles before I would change the oil.

Mine seems to be optimistic. I have 100 or so miles since I last changed my oil and its down 13% now. My car sits a lot and only does short trips in the winter.

Short trips are worse, so that seems accurate...

Mine usually reads 25-30% once the 3000 mark rolls around. If you have a manual, it goes over all the variables it uses there. mrlogic got them all I believe anyways.
