I just recently replaced the trans filter and put new fluid in it. Now I get like a grinding noise from idle until it shifts into high gear which I am sure the noise is still there I just can't hear it. Soooo I think it's the flex plate or just the flex plate screws are loose. Would I have to drop the trans to tighten those screws? I know if I'm gonna replace it I have to but I think the screws are just loose. Any feedback is good feedback. Thanks

Fluid level is full when fully warm??

Otherwise you can just pop the cover off on the bottom and tighten the bolts that hold the plate to the torque converter. You will just have to turn the motor over by hand to get at them all.

Car in neutral, e-brake on and take a wrench and socket to the crank bolt. Big breaker bar length will work good, I think the crank bolt is a 22 or 24mm????

Directly above where they arrow goes <----------, where the engine meets the transmission is a plastic cover. Has like 2-3 bolts holding it on.

You can turn the engine over in park, neutral wont affect anything

Habit I guess, I do everything at work with a car in neutral. Guess I kinda had a thought about needed to move the vehicle forwards or not.

pretty sure bill used nothing but his hands to turn my flex to get the tc bolts out. like grab the flex, and pull it one way or the other, it dont matter really.

lets put it this way, he never came up and then said ok, the tc bolts are out, on to ect, ect lol

Almost sounds like the trans. isn't full. I had this noise when I first fired up my replacement motor/trans. Once it was full it stopped.

And Scotty, I was wondering the same thing about Bill. Been 3 weeks since he checked in. Kinda odd....

Well the flex plate was good all bolts are tight and it's not cracked or anything. Soooo turns out it was the water pump. Today it started overheating like crazy as I pulled up to work and smoke everywhere. So I replaced the water pump and all was good at idle and radiator is full over flow tank is full the system has pressure and both the upper and lower hoses are warm. When it gets really hot it runs like **** after driving for maybe 5 minutes. I was lucky enough to get it to my buddies shop so he will check it out tomorrow. Was just curious as to what you all think it may be. Thanks again and in advance

If you replaced the water pump, did you bleed the system correctly? If not, the overheating is a good indication of that. There is a bleed screw on top of the water neck that houses the thermostat. Bring the car up to full temp, crack the bleed screw loose and let the air out of the system. Will probably spit steam and some coolant as it works it out. Once you have a steady stream of coolant from it close it up, top off the overflow and take it for a drive.

These engines are tuff to bleed. You have and air pocket and you might have to bleed it a couple of times.
