yeah thats true, i do have a garage and tools, I'm just more worried about messing something up lol. and the video of that vs cam his tachometer stays completely still the whole video, mine jumps in between like 500-1000 rpm at idle and a lot of times when it drops low my dash lights and everything start to dim out.

That is actually my build lol The VS cam isnt a large cam so idle wont move much but if you have a slight larger one, NIC, XP, IS2 cam and such it will, especially if not tuned. you might have a xp since it is the most common one. but lets not get ahead of ourselves and think there is a aftermarket cam for sure in there. i say tear apart the block if you have a cam great if you dont add one in there along with other goodies that have you have and change all gaskets, TQ all bolts properly add fluids. Then Start up.

It'll be hard to mess something up just mark which pushrods and lifters come out which cylinder etc and be sure the cam is well lubed when you go to reinstall it. It's not a difficult process just a bit of time consuming. Give yourself a weekend and more importantly have plenty of beer and you can do it! Hell when I did my install I did it in my driveway and had no sort of awning or anything.

Why do you need to organize the pushrods and rockers and such i didn't lol They aren't adjustable or anything so why would it matter if they are all the same?

Piece of mind if anything so they go back into the same cylinder for wear and tear reasons. Personally I didn't lol but guys seem to recommend it.

I really want my idle to be smooth and not bounce me around at every stop light, I know it's fun. But for my every day driver it's really annoying so if it is aftermarket what's my best cam option for a almost factory idle but still better performance?

Ya? I'll do some research on it. I can't just put it back to stock. In my books that would be a sin lol

Very streetable. Exactly why I went this route vs a larger cam.

Because all the parts wear to each other. It's a good idea to keep them all paired, especially the lifters as they will wear to their bores.

I didn't change my lifters out either, though I do have one that is collapsed now. Can't hear it with the radio on so meh.

Vs cam is very streetable, but so is basically every cam there is. Sure the gas mileage goes down, and sure they react better with a different converter stall, but how awesome is it to roll around with an IS4 and an open dump?

Side note, my cam is plenty streetable. Mileage went down some, but not much cruising. Plus is pulls strong to 6500

Is it possible you have carbon build-up on the throttle boby blade and its messing with your idle? I've seen a few cars that just need a good cleaning.

Also if your LIM gaskets are breathing thru the crankcase you might have a cylinder getting un-metered air that the computer can't account for.

But if your dead set on tearing it apart to make sure, and your handy, changing all those gaskets. Is a good plan while your in there. But if everythings all good other than the burning curiiousity just pull the whole engine out and pop the flex plate and rear cover.

It might seem like more work but way less cost on parts.

i think thats what I'm gonna have to do, so with a degree tool i can accurately get the degrees of the cam just by taking the valve cover off? so far that sounds like the easiest way, i would just like to know so when i tune it its not off

I think it has been said, but cam or not the way you go about tuning it is the same! If you have caught up on all maintenance and sure there are no vac leaks then just start tuning.

Tip for organizing lifters and pushrods get a shoebox and poke six holes in a row on ech side of the bottom and number the pairs to correspond with the cylinders on engine. Then rubberband each lifter to the matching pushrod and slide it in the hole in the box that matches the location on the engine
