I have an 02 gtp coupe, basic mods n bolt ons. Cai cone, upgraded pcm, bolt on downpipe, slp exhaust, headers, msd ign coilovers, ram air hood, my SES soon light is on with the dreaded po420. Tested and double checked and the catalytic coverter is fried. It was stock, so I assume that I shouldnt go with another one. There are many universal cats by magnaflow and flowmaster but does anyone have a good opinion on which one to go with or what to do? Ive seen dummy plugs but dont know 100% how those work either. Any advice helps! Thanks!

Most highflow cats will set that same code. They flow too well for what the car wants.

You'd have to spend between 100-200 bucks for a higher quality cat converter to keep the light off for good. Those "dummy" plugs, emulators do not work on 01+ cars if I recall correctly.

walker catted down pipe would be the closest thing to stock.

or get a zzp catted pipe and the do the fouler trick to fool the o2 sensor.

your cat is clogging up. it needs to get changed.

the fouler tricks the pcm into thinking a high flow is not high flow.

Will the fouler trick work if the cat has been completely deleted.

The fouler would probably work and is cheap enough to try if it doesnt work its not a big loss. You could also get or make an o2 sensor simulator. They work on damn near all cars that dont have an air pump. If your cat isnt plugged you dont really have to replace it if your only goal is to turn the light off.

So your cat is clogged, but you're not going to replace it? Are you aware of the negative impact a clogged cat can have on your engine?

Its not that im not going to deal with it or am ignoring it, but is dealing with that the most cost effectice way path to go down
Until I pass emissions and get money replace it? Aftee I pass ill probably cut it out and replace with high flow and foul it

Just because he has a P0420 doesnt mean the cat is plugged. Usually when they are plugged you wont get a P0420 anyhow. More misfire codes and map/maf codes

Thats what I was thinking. Plus its not true dual its single to Y pipe and the exhaust flow is pretty great

Although being perfectly honest I have been having random and intermittent map/maf codes and hesitations while accelerating and erratic idle sometimes dying. All intermittent like right now it only dies once in a great while at idle it used to have to be in neutral and gassed to stay alive
