Hey guys.. I am going to test drive and possible by a 1997 Grand Prix GTP coupe with 99,000 miles from a private seller (unmodified, black exterior). The only thing i was told that is wrong with the car is it needs an oil change and the driver side window motor needs to be replaced. Is there anything i should be looking for? Any tips? Thanks!

Check the strut towers in the trunk for rust (pull back carpet to check, it isn't glued or anything). Check rocker panels for rust. Unless you want a winter beater for a year or just a junker, these are the most important things on a grand prix these days besides whether or not it runs and drives. At least in the 97-03 years. If either of these are horridly rusty I'd avoid it. It's just not worth it.

Thanks guys. I just test drove the car.

Question: The air didn't blow at all under any setting. I am guessing probably it's the blower motor?

Also, the DIC only displays when the air was off, or on 5 (full). Anyone know what may cause this? Or how much it could potentially cost to get fixed?

It also needs new window motors but it drove well. Brakes, trans, and motor all seemed to check out but just wanted y'all's opinion on the things above. Any help is appreciated!

For 2K and the body/pain is in decent shape with NO rust and you are certain it's the blower motor then yes.

Also i dont understand why the DIC goes black (shuts off) when the air dial is on 1-4.. But it works on 0 and 5

as long as the body and interior is clean for 2k id say its worth it under a 100k and you can always find parts on here. People around here tend to think everything should be for free. So for the miles it has if the body and int. are in good shape id get it 2k really isn't that much money.

Just bought the car today.. The previous owner has been using regular gas.. And it is almost empty now.(DIC says average 12.5 mpg) I should be using 93 octane right? And do i need to put any fuel cleaner or anything before i switch the gas over to premium? Thanks!! Ill post pics this weekend.

^ thanks ill be doing a tune up with those things here soon. But as far as the gas goes.. The light is on so i will need to get gas tonight after work... So i should do the lucas fuel treatment or some kind of fuel injector cleaner? And then fill up with premium?
