    Hey, just installed SD headers on my l32. Gotta question for those who have them on your l32. What did you guys do about the front headers being too close to the fan? I don't want my **** melting so I want ideas. Will the wrapping help or should I maybe fit some of my old heat shield in between? This is a daily driver car so I need some good ideas that will work.

    Try to get the heat shield in there, should be able to push the heat shield towards the fans more. Wrapping is also a good idea.

    I'll see what I can do with that, it's an extremely tight fit there. Kind of sucks for that.

    Hmm I didn't have any clearance issues with my SD's probably had a good 1/2" clearance.

    I'll flip the motor mounts tomorrow and see where I'm at. I bet if I rigged my old heat shield up it would be jammed against the fan and my header. That's how tight it is lol.

    Don't wrap them... Wrapping them will promote cracking..

    *in for lower mount condition throwing off engine geometry and pushing the headers closer to the fans*

    Check your engine and transmission mounts for crap condition. If they've never been replaced, then they need it.

    Im the third owner and the second owner was a chick so I'm sure nothing like that has been changed. I'll go back and see what it looks like. There might be a half an inch in spacing, it's not like it's resting on the fan but to me it looks pretty damn close. Too close to risk leaving it. I'll take a picture after work and try to post it and I'll measure it up. I know the old heat shield does have little clips so maybe I'll just retro fit that for insurance

    Oh, and I had to take the metal fan shroud off to get the headers in. It wasn't the best job I've ever done lol

    Check lower mounts.

    They're most likely shot to sh1t because they're fluid filled from the factory. Go buy a new engine/trans mount...solid rubber...no more chances of them tearing and leaking all over the place. They're cheap too...less than $80 for both if you buy them off of fleabay...and flip the uppers if you haven't done that yet; that's free.

    I should just sleep under my car for as much as I'm under it lol. Question. How easy is it to get the dipstick for the tranny to seal? I thought removing it would help... It actually only helped draining all of my oil and not sealing correctly after, so I'm getting a new I ring I just wanna know if there's too much of "pushing in" or not enough. I should feel it set in place right?

    You took two pics of nothing to help the cause, lol.

    Take pics of the trans dipstick...and the o-ring grommet that seals the dipstick tube.

    Also, mounts...you check them too?

    I took pics of the ****ty clearance lol. I'm driving semi right now so I'll take some as soon as I get home. I'll pop that dipstick out and snap a picture after. I briefly checked and they're *****ed for sure. So I guess I'll have to use our engine picker or is there a better way to change them?

    Well... I'm pretty positive that the o ring got pushed into my tranny... Yay... And I'll have to cut the bracket that holds the trans. Dipstick in place because of the bend I'll be having to make to help seal the dipstick and actually fit it in there. This is pretty ****ty...

    They're completely shot... this car has many miles on it so its going to be a long battle to make it actually decent. I bought it for $4,700 though. people are asking 6+ for a car like mine around where I'm from.

    Its a "sleeve o ring", so you have to find its sweet spot to where it seals. I also flipped the mounts and now I need to order some new bottom mounts.

    You'll need to take the rear header loose so you can move it to allow the dipstick to go in correctly, if your not careful with the bracket on the dipstick you will break a spotweld and you'll have an immense leak.

    There is no sweet spot for the tube seal.
    Its not an o-ring, once you get the tube all the way in it wont leak. If you've been doing a lot of twisting and prying the damage may be done to the tube already. Check closely at the bracket on the tube to see if either of the welds are broken.
    Use vaseline to ease installation.
