Hello everyone, I am very sorry if I am posting something that has already been posted, but I'm having issues and i am trying very hard not to spend money on something i don't need replaced.
I've spent a lot of time today searching around the internet, and the 97-99 Grand Prix's seem to have a lot of common issues with staling out, so i'm trying to track down which one is mine.
I was taking the turn this morning when my car stalled out. Everything shut off, including all electric, so i shifted into park. my key would not turn back far enough for me to remove it, but pushing it forward would not start the car either. I did not hear any clicking or anything else when i would try the key. in about 30-60 seconds my car did actually try and it did start. Drove the next 2 miles to work. Once I got to work, I parked and before i could even turn off my car it stalled out again, with the same issue of not being able to start my car, not being able to take out the key. I couldn't even shift out of park. eventually the cabin lights turned on (after about 3-5 min of sitting there) and I could remove the key.
So what's my issue? Which sensor is broken? I've seen posts about the MAP sensor, the vacuum and intake, and about the fuel pump resistor. The fuel pump resistor sounds like the most likely candidate to me, but in all the posts I've seen they are either talking about supercharged engines, or they don't mention what the engine is.
So what are suggestions for trouble shooting this? how can i make an educated decision before throwing in the towel and taking it somewhere. Every post I've seen about this issue has said they their mechanic initially got the problem wrong the first two or three times... and i'd really like to avoid spending that money. I am also fairly adept with my car, so i'd like to fix it myself if it's something feasible to do.
Thanks
