So there's this black bar, which I'm assuming is the alternator brace. Is this thing essential or can I just leave it off? I lost the bolt/stud combo that went on the front dogbone and held it in place so I replaced that with a regular bolt and now I've got nowhere to put this sum*****.

    I never had mine.

Powdercoated it. Had it on for a bit.

    Left it off.

    Some use, some don't.

The '98 bracket is different however than the 99+...

Mine is a '98, so I'm guessing that means I can just strap down the alternator with the other 3 mount points (that front bolt, bottom back, and the other bar that goes across behind the blower) and it'll be fine?

my regal is a 98, i have no front bar, and i took the back one off as well. but it kinda holds the map, and evap sensors. i have mine zip tied to the other wire looms and vac lines. i deleted it when i did my lim job. its still on the shelf just in case i want it back on there.

I'm putting the back bar on to hold evap, but yeah my plan is to leave off the front bar. She should be gudentite with the other points bolted down.

That front one ain't no effin dogbone. Doggies are what hold the top of your motor from rocking around.

That front brace is a very spare part. Most guys consider the back to be the same, however I can see how the belt might tweak a little without it. No one with a big build hardly ever has it.. so you should be fine w/o it.

Meanwhile..if you goodntite that lower right alt bolt.. which is the pivot one... enjoy stripping the aluminum alt mount/tensioner bracket.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

You mean I wasn't supposed to rip it on with the 1" air gun?

Basically the bottom bolt on the front left dogbone is supposed to be a bolt/stud combo piece. Like, you bolt it down, and there's a stud on the end of it that holds the other end of the brace. I lost that, so I replaced it with a regular bolt.

And on a second note, I'm quite sure I'm not on crack.
