Deleted the cat yesterday because I thought it was plugged. Replaced it with a straight piece of pipe. Now the car is getting worse milage then it did with teh cat. ? Our range went from 144mi on the DIC down to 90mi only driving maybe 30 miles. Any thoughts??

01+ cars use the rear o2 sensor to determine fueling is a way.

So if it see's that the converter is not there, it will use more fuel. Also the cat test will keep running, thus using more fuel.

Assume the check engine light come on already.

Get a downpipe with a cat, or just buy a cat and weld it in yourself.

Spend anywhere from 90-150 bucks they come with somewhat good warrantys.

If he used HPT, it'd cost you 100 bucks just to licence the VIN/Car to change anything.

DHP is free and I think still works on 04 and 05 cars, wont work on 06-08. Same with HPT, it's only good on 97-05 cars. (Except GXP, 05-08's work.)

Don't base your findings on one day of driving. The DIC is ridiculously inaccurate, especially when it comes to the range. I can change the range just by how I park. Just recently on two different occasions I ran the car until the range hit "Low", which is at 40 miles. I stopped less than 5 miles after that I put over 16 gallons in the car, so if I had listened to the range indicator and tried to stretch it more, I would have run out of fuel.

My car's fuel range is more or less accurate when it's near empty (LOW MI) as long as its on a flat surface. Parking tilted to the left or or backward and I lose range, parking tilted to the right or forwards and I gain range.

I don't think there's any way to tell based on how much fuel you put in either. ive twice put in over 17 gallons and routinely it goes over 16 gallons. that's stopping at the first click. my gas gauge is broke so I have no way to really check anything. sure can't trust the dic. its gallon usage doesn't match the pumps.

or maybe the gauge on the pump is jacked

Mine is fine with no cat. I had a hollowed cat on before that and the check engine light would only come on about one a month

I use my DIC because I have no fuel guage, my range doesn't work either so I go by fuel used and mileage. I ran out of gas a few times, its not accurate but it works pretty good

I havent had a working fuel gauge since Ive bought the car in 2010

Some could benefit by taking a minute and read the sticky about 01+ cars.

Deleting the code isn't going to fix anything except a light bulb turning on.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
