The guy is asking 2500 and it all seems to be in good shape. Has 160k on it and the guy claims it has no rust and that the transmission and everything else is great, even has a new radiator, sway bar, tie rods, and alignment. So I'm telling myself holy crap I need to get this thing. So I text him and stuff all day and then tonight he tells me when I call him that it's not supercharged. So I'm left sitting here wondering what the hell? Where do I go from here? I was dead set on buying this thing because I can never find GTX's but it's not supercharged so I just don't see the point....am I crazy?

Top swap can easily be done for under $600. I always thought it was dumb the guys that did that stuff to GTs, but eh, it was mostly a cosmetics thing anyway.

I like the top swap idea but I was reading around and I have heard horror stories of them blowing up within 1000 miles of being built.

How much would the turbo route be?

GTX was just an exterior package.

You could have them install the slp performance package while it was getting the exterior mods done. But it wasn't part of the deal.

^There were actually stage kits in the later years, stage 1 being just cosmetic stuff, stage 2 being the ram air intake and exhaust, stage 3 was for gtps only and included rockers and a 3.5 mps. So you can probably easily find a quite a few stage 2 GTs.

Are the top swapped motors still ok to take down to 2.8 and such pulleys (with supporting mods) and still be just as safe as the L67?

Yes, with proper supporting mods. Even the na engines have pretty solid bottom ends.

Really? Well that settles it. If the guy still has it (he said someone stopped by to look at it at six) then I shall topswap it and if it ends up blowing up after a while then an L67 shall be purchased. We will see how it all works out I guess

I know where a stage 3 is with ~40k miles on it.

On a side note I would be more worried about the transmission with 160k than adding more power to an already going out transmission.

    And smile it's Blacktooth Grin!

Well as the mods get more and more aggressive the trans would be replaced with one of the triple edge ones. This one sounds like it will work long enough and maybe even beyond what I need it to work for.

Why not just turbo it? I think if you have the money for a turbo (not sure if you do) and are gonna do the work for a topswap then just put that work towards a turbo.

Lots of guys have high mileage transmissions with mods. Just depends on if you're stupid or not. Iceman has a VERY high mileage transmission from what he told me and he's running a smaller pulley. Not very small, but still smaller.

Yeah I wouldn't quote that as an example. He's very lucky, and it has started to die on him as well now.

If you're gonna mod and not use it why mod? If you're gonna mod, make sure you have $$ ready for a broken trans when it happens if you're not up for doing it at the same time.
