I need help guys, I'm lost.

Car has been running rough at times for a few months. Recently it started misfiring and throwing random misfire and cyl 4 misfire codes. Last weekend I bought a new MAF and a new dp with cat. Both installed for a week now and problems came back. Its not misfiring now, but it is randomly cutting out.
I can't narrow it down to a shift point or anything. I've ran 2 tanks of gas and some sea foam thru it with no change. Have been getting awful mpgs as well.
Plugs and wires look good and only have about 20k on them.

    Car currently has NO codes.

I'm at a loss for what to check next. I can take it somewhere for diagnosis but idk how to describe it and being a girl, they will think I'm crazy.

So any advice anyone has or things to check, I would greatly appreciate it.

This. Mine would glitch out at 50 km/h and 100 km/h. Replaced my CPS and never happened again after that.

If you have the right OBD programmer to plug in your car, try crank relearn, it may be out of alignment. If that doesn't work, swap it and try again.

Some basic $50 OBD reader doesn't do anything with relearning or resetting anything beyond getting rid of CEL.

A bad CPS usually doesn't set a code either but definitely sounds like it could be your issue.

Would the cps also cause starting problems?

Im wondering if you have an ignition problem? Maybe a bad coil pack, plug or wire?

We pulled cyl 4 and 2 plugs and they looked ok, so I'm hoping/assuming the others were ok. We never did any coils, but 1 of them has been replaced prior to me owning it as it looks different from the others.

At times it will start and the die and take a few tries to get it to stay running. Sometimes it starts hard. Then others, once it starts it has to rev up and down before it decides to idle out. I put a new battery in when I first got the car, so going on 3 years almost. It's never given me problems but I haven't had it tested.

I've been meaning to replace the fuel filter, I just haven't got around to it. Doubt that means anything.

I did manage to get it to do its deal on the way home from work and it seemed to hop around from 45-55mph. Didn't feel like the transmission, but just that the motor was chugging and couldn't decide what it wanted to do. (Sorry for my lack of intelligence in this area)

Car just doesn't feel right and I want it to be better.

that morning start and stall sounds like a fuel pressure regulator maybe.

It throws its starting fits almost every time, it's not particular to morning cold starts.

I would check the fuel pressure when you get a chance.

New symptom....had it on interstate tonight and going 70ish, rpms will bounce from 2300-2700.

It still passes the TC test when I try it randomly. Still no codes.

Car goes into dealer in the am.

Fingers crossed it's not something really bad or expensive.

Worst fear is confirmed....they think transmission issue. They can't get it pin pointed so they suggest taking it to a transmission shop.

Saying its the tranny does not mean it actually is... It could just be they're lazy or too inadequate to figure out the problem.

you mentioned hard starts, this will have nothing at all to do with a tranny... Fuel, air and spark will start the engine and keep it going. Process of elimination will help, you checked 2 plugs, but not all... When did you last change them, what type? Copper will need to be changed pretty often. You also mentioned battery, get it checked, today cheap batteries can falter earlier than you would think, then test output of alt. Fuel pressure as well, you mentioned the filter, it's 10 min job, go for it. The revs bouncing and chugging could be CPS... But I'd leave that for last.
