I would like some ideas on where to start with the following problem:

I have a 2000 Grand Prix GTP. As I was sitting at a light the car stalled. It started right back up but then a few seconds later stalled again and I could not get it started after that. I popped the hood and noticed that the supercharger belt snapped and there were pieces of it everywhere. The main drive belt was still intact though but had some pieces of the supercharger belt wrapped between it and the pulley so I pulled it off and purchased new belts. I put the new main drive belt on and when I went to put the new supercharger belt on I now noticed that the front idler pulley was no longer there. Just the bolt that held it on was left so apparently the pulley snapped off and thats what busted the belt. I have run the car without the supercharger belt before so I tried starting it up but same problem. It cranks over fine but just will not start. I searched for damaged wires or sensors but I don't seem to see anything that was hit. Any suggestions on where to start would be appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Chuck

Check to see if the belt hit the ICM ground on the long stud off the coil bracket.

if the belt got wrapped around the balancer ( near the engine and under it) id think you got a bad wire now or bad crank sensor maybe.

it also could have hit the icm wire harness right off the front of the coils.

Thanx for your replies. I did visually look at the connections around the ICM and and Crank Sensor and they seemed to be fine. It was getting late so I didn't have time to take them off and check if any pins were damaged. The belt did get wrapped around some of the pulleys and shred all over the place. I'll let you know what I find when i have some more time in the next couple days to look at it.

Ok so here's what I have found so far. There is no spark at any of the coils. The ICM has power and ground. I used this guide to check the 3x signal from the crank sensor: Part 2 -How to Test the 3.8L GM Crank Sensor With a Multimeter . I get a constant 6 volts while turning the crank buy hand, it never pulses turning the voltage off. It just got dark so I had no time to continue on today. Can the crank sensor be bad and send a constant 6 volts instead of turning on and off?

After pulling off the Harmonic Balancer I found a piece of the belt wrapped up inside it. It also had bent some of the teeth on the balancer and broke the tips off the crank sensor. So I guess I have found my problems. Will be installing the new parts tommorrow. Once again thanx for the help.

Glad to hear you figured it out.

Don't feel bad I had my HB warp and take out my CPS and had to replace both.
Squirrels are my engine. I need a Ford Regal
