Hey guys... Just throwing this out there. I have a 2000 GTP daily driver with only 101k miles on it. Is it worth it dumping about 1k into it for fun? With some headers, plugs/wires, smaller pulley, pcm tune? It's not the greatest in terms of paint, but everything else seems solid. I already have intake and getting poly mounts (I effed mine up trying to flip them). Should I look into putting $ into it or just blow the money else where? I do love the car and I've only had it for about 4 months or so.

    Thoughts and advice are appreciated!
    I'm a noob with cars sorry :/

I modded mine just like you listed... It ended up breaking more crap including a transmission. Just an opinion though. Your call. I won't lie... its great engine wise. Its all the crap around the engine that breaks.

That's kinda scary lol. I don't know **** about cars, so I wouldn't know what to do to replace a transmission. That would be another 1k roughly? I paid 3.5k for the car. It has its problems, mainly the paint is ****. Arizona sun tan. Other than that I've ran into really small stuff like the coolant elbows, and **** I messed up on my own trying to learn lol!

Honestly when i got my car two years ago... my knowledge base of cars was much smaller. The guys on here are SUPER awesome and helpful.I learned a lot about cars by owning this one. I know more about a grand prix than most people care to listen to now a days. Mine didnt start breaking things about a year and a half after owning it. The first year and a half it was an amazing car.

I paid 5k for my car... its now only worth 3.5k I bought it not far from cash for clunkers which really screwed over used car prices.

My roof has florida sun tan lol.

And trans is more like 1.5k-2k. I got mine done(rebuilt) for 1.5k cause i was like you and didnt know how to replace it.

Worth and or Value are relative to your own personal taste! You said a few key words... FUN and LOVE! As long as you keep those two words in perspective you can then place a value or worth to your goal!

Bottom line is the GP's are a pretty easy engine/car to work on, mod and tinker. Petty much everything that could be done to them has been tried already, making this forum a wealth of info., should you attempt to try something. Start with the safely modding your 3800 thread and go from there. Read a bunch before you decide what you want to do and then make a plan. Read again and assemble all your parts for your project, then get ready to have some fun. For a grand, there's lots you can do. Just make sure that you build that rainy day fund as well as the car is over a decade old and things will break, wear out or just plain need replacing. For a twelve year old car though, weighing two tons, getting almost 30 mpg(hwy when tuned) and having some decent pull... It's a worthy investment IMO.

    Enjoy!

What cool said. If you love it and want to have more fun with it then go ahead. $500 or so and you can have a pretty quick car. Transmissions go if you beat on the car (almost always). Some transmissions are just hit and miss on these cars, but you have relatively low mileage and if you can keep yourself from putting your foot to the floor all the time (mods or not) you should be fine! Do it! You'll be more disappointed by things you don't do than things you didn't.
