one last thing, drove 375 miles today with the new exhaust and noticed some ticking after the long drive (in park). I had something similar sounding before but that was only on cold starts and went away when the car warmed up. Now it's ticking when the car was at operating temperature. exhaust manifold leak? lifters?

Could be a exhaust leak or lifter. You could always have someone start the car and get underneath it and put your hand on the exhaust to feel for a leak. If its a lifter then seafoam can take care of it majority of the time. I out my money more on the exhaust leak since you just messed with that.

The noise will get louder and louder as more of the gasket gets burn't away. (Assuming it is an exhaust leak.)

probably a very small exhaust leak as the metal gets hot it expands and seals the leak enough that its relatively unnoticeable when the cars cold start it get a chunk of hose say 2-4 feet long depending on your reach garden hose works great put one end to your ear and the other end where you expect the leak to be you will hear a dramatic change in pitch. its like using a stethoscope.

listened to it more today, doesn't go away when running temps, and gets louder with revs. sounds like it's coming from the rear valve cover

i cant see it being a lifter because you just made exhaust mods and it just started but that doesn't mean it 100% cant be the lifter i guess just run it some more go over the exhaust and every thing with a fine comb and pray you find it. another suggestion i can make is fill the tail pipe with smoke and use an air gun to pressurize the exhaust system

it was ticking before but I usually didn't notice it after driving for a bit, but I did have a giant hole in my muffler which pretty much covered up any other noise including my radio

also to stay on topic, drove the car a bit today and the exhaust when in neutral or park revving rasps past 4.5k rpm. sounds almost like a 4 cylinder civic...how do I get rid of this horrible 3800 rasp (glasspack instead of resonator?)

I would fix the exhaust leak first before doing anything else. To give you a idea I ran Borlas w/ headers and the stock resonator and it sounded far from a civic.

it sounds fine until I rev it up to ~4k rpm then it just rasps(in neutral/park, in drive it sounds fine, some rasp after WOT pulls)...maybe it's due to the size of my exhaust?

okay cleared the P0420 and it hasn't come back...but after WOT pulls my exhaust smells like rotten eggs. Is this normal for a high flow cat, or did I seriously clog my cat in the span of 2 weeks?

Just get rid of the cat and get a tune from overkill to get rid of the codes thatll popup. And all the other benefits from a tune
Then instead of rotten egg smell it will smell like racekar

I've had 2 downpipes from zzp now.. one was 2.5" for my NA car and then I got a 3" for my Comp G... both ticked.

First one I reused the original front gasket cause it's a metal gasket and looked good, put one a new back one, thought that was the problem so I took it down and replaced both gaskets, still ticked.

When I got my 3" I didnt want it to tick again so I made 150% sure the gasket was positioned right and it was all cranked down tight, still ticked, made sure it didnt loosen up, STILL ticked.

I emailed zzp about it cause I was getting irritated, they told me it's common to get a hairline crack in the rear manifold when you take the downpipe off and replace it and that's probably where the ticking is coming from, which makes a lot of sense when I get down in the pit and listen to it running... and you said it sounds like the rear v/c.

It's really not that bad though, it's barely even audible unless the car is in a close space like a garage, or Im specially listening for it.
