Like 70% of the time when I start my 2005 GP it will start right up but then a second later it will die. I will usually then start it back up then tap the gas and everything is fine. What would cause the engine to start then die a second later? To me it seems like its not getting enough fuel to start or it could be my battery I have which CA is 440 which seems a little bit low as I said in a previous thread. I just don't want to throw 100 into a better battery and it still do the same thing. I've already put all new brakes and rotors, Thermostat and just replace the plastic elbows because one cracked and cause a massive radiator leak.... Ughh!

Your battery, while small, is not the cause of this issue.

My 2004 does this. There is a valve in the fuel line that keeps fuel from draining back into the tank after you shut it off. That valve is stuck open, so when you start the car, the line pressure is not high enough because the pump has not "primed" yet.

Mine has been like this for a year, its just a nuisance thing. Try this, turn off the radio, and make sure everything is quiet, turn your key to on, you should hear the fuel pump cycle, do it a second time and listen for the sound to get lower in pitch, this is your pump unable to push more fuel because the line is now fully pressurized. Start the car and it should stay running.

This has never given me any trouble while driving, just when starting after the car has sat for a while. It also helps if the car is parked facing down hill.

Would replacing fuel pump or filter fix the issue? I read a old forum on here that someone was having same problem with 2005 model and cleaned his throttle body real good and fixed the issue so I just got done cleaning mine.

Also car has almost 115k miles and I noticed it has original wires and most likely plugs as well. So im sure im due for new ones as well!

At 115, you are due for plugs and wires "by the book", but as long as it idles smoothly and no misfires under heavy load, i wouldnt worry too much, you could gain a few MPGs depending on how bad the plugs are.

Don't quote me, but I believe the valve is part of the fuel pump assembly, as is the filter. I have had people try to tell me that cleaning the TB will fix it, it hasn't. I had a shop try to tell me that the pump itself had failed, to which I replied "how did i drive it here then?".

Fuel pump and labor for this car is pretty pricey, so I just deal with it. Its not really a big deal.

I was going to say first thing was clean throttle body. But since you did that, maintenance. Replace the wires and plugs. Just go with stock plugs and stock wires. Try to find a house brand stock wires that have a lifetime warranty. If you have never done anything to the transmission, now would be a very good time to drop the filter, and drain fluids. Put in new filter and fluids Do that before you have any problems with your transmission.

As for the fuel pump/fuel filter... it honestly depends. Some '05s had in line fuel filters... other were in the pump assembly (non-serviceable that is supposed to last the life of the pump). Try putting some fuel injector cleaner in your fuel.

Like Chad said, turn the car to KEY ON... non running and you should here the fuel pump whining then turn off.

    And smile it's Blacktooth Grin!

I always do my own repairs but I was actually going to go with the same brand "AC Delco Plugs and Wires". Would replacing the filter help at all and also speaking about transmission.... Sometimes I will get long shifts as in rmps goes up and it slowly shifts into the next gear or the rpms will get to the point where its about to shift and rev up a little? My fluid looks clean still but I still want to change it but I been reading that it can be a trans pressure solenoid that causes the shifting like that.
