Re: stock (allegedly) gtp with flow mods nets 10 degrees kr at wot?
One possibility although not a good one, is that the engine may be developping Rod knock. It will usually happen at low load.
On one of my 160K miles turbo cars that I was running at very high boost daily (31 psi) I started to have rod knock that I could hear.
Before I could hear it I would get a lot of knock at RPMs and loads that I would never see any. Besides the car was tuned to perfection and would almost never get any KR.
The car was equiped with a knock warning system in the dash (Eagle Talon TSI AWD with DSMlink)
It could be anything from an extra sensive knock sensor (replace), a loose knock sensor, too tight knock sensor.
Bad wiring to knock sensor. Noisy anything in the engine, noise in the transmission/axles transferring vibrations to the knock sensor.
To me it sounds like you are not getting true knock. True knock rarely happens at part throttle low load. One sure way to find out, add more race fuel (50/50 C16 and 91) then test again.
You can always drain the tank and keep your 50/50 mix for racing later.
Re: stock (allegedly) gtp with flow mods nets 10 degrees kr at wot?
alright guys i think i got it. i beat the tar out of it a bit tonight. figured that if i bought it just for the motor i may as well beat on it a bit if its not gonna work for my plans (forgive me please- frustration) something smelled hot so i pulled over and popped the hood. it was dark. and the powerlog on the front was glowing red. and the cast iron rear was hotter than bawls. exhaust restriction? thats about all i can figure. and the suspension is pretty well shot by the by. so that prolly helps it too. is there anything else that would make the exhaust glow red? a clog is all that im aware of. or running very very rich, which it isnt. usual afr at wot pegs 11.0

Re: stock (allegedly) gtp with flow mods nets 10 degrees kr at wot?
in school at UTI we had a engine dyno, to get a baseline for the engine by itself. for giggle, we ran the engine WOT with the lights out, and made the long tube headers glow red.
no cats attached. run a engine at max for long enough and the EGTs will make a manifold glow red.
check your EGR make sure its operating right. its purpose is to keep cylinder temps down to combat NOx emissions.
is your engine lacking power? if not, your exhaust is not clogged.
Re: stock (allegedly) gtp with flow mods nets 10 degrees kr at wot?
Clogged cat...son of a ***** why didn't I think of that. You're a beast dano
I can say for a fact my stock GT was knocking like a summabiatch with a clogged cat...also no balls and serious rattling past 4000 RPM
Re: stock (allegedly) gtp with flow mods nets 10 degrees kr at wot?
got the case relearn done today. got improved power in the low end. im short on gas at the moment so i didnt get to test second gear much but the random kr is still there. there isnt a cat on the car.. the guy who had it before me has a plethora of clamps and reducers and all kinds of funny crap from the downpipe back to the resonator. and it leaks pretty bad. i got a 3 incher on order. hopin thats whats causing it
Re: stock (allegedly) gtp with flow mods nets 10 degrees kr at wot?
How come no one said fuel? whats your fuel pressure? it sounds like you're running stupid lean, causing out of control EGT's. I suspect fuel.
Re: stock (allegedly) gtp with flow mods nets 10 degrees kr at wot?
fuel pressure is 42 at idle 52 with vacuum line taken off. the afr reaches into the 10 range at wot occasionally. i took it on the highway today and the car still gets random kr spikes. it runs smoother otherwise. thank you TEK for the pcm ideas
Re: stock (allegedly) gtp with flow mods nets 10 degrees kr at wot?
....theres a big hill in town. i romped up it. theres no kr reading on a slope apparently. i turned around did it 3 times. wth. so apparently its some kind of false knock. but whyyy would it do that. loose trans mount? the motor mounts are new. this car will be the death of me

what did you do to fix? swap knock modules or PCMs?
Re: stock (allegedly) gtp with flow mods nets 10 degrees kr at wot?
ya mentioned the knock modules that were sposed to be swapped on a new pcm. this one wasnt swapped. i had a buddy do a case relearn on it and it runs alot smoother. downside is it still spikes up to 10 or so kr around 60 mph at WoT nothin before that and i dont try and pull through it into 3rd gear. one of the struts was loose, i fixed that. the rear brake rotors..are rather wobbly and the exhaust is leaking bad. what gets me is that it suddenly started doing the kr spike. and im not sure whats changed from then to now. i got a three inch downpipe ordered tho hopefully that will fix it. or im gonna guess its suspension problems causing vibration at high speed rather than high rpm.
Re: stock (allegedly) gtp with flow mods nets 10 degrees kr at wot?
idk guys. i tried everything i could with the motor. bought all new sensors on top. cool weather hot weather. changed plugs etc etc. im gonna pull it and put it in the fiero ive been workin on. itll pry take awhile but ill update the thread about whether or not the problem remains. thnx everyone
Re: stock (allegedly) gtp with flow mods nets 10 degrees kr at wot?
power steering pump shaft had oval-ed out the guts of the steering unit and was vibrating against the housing. if anyone is still interested lol
