dirty or bad grounds, or the alt is bad.

you can have that tested as well. test the battery volts car running, and off, when running you should see 13 to 14 volts or a bit more. off no less then 12 volts.

you can also have the battery load tested. not sure if they did that for the bat test.

The battery was loaded tested and showed fine. When this happens it starts right away when its jumped. Also if I have the key in ACC mode it will do it also.

Your charging system is apparently not working correctly, and your battery is supplying all of the power to the car even while running. Either your grounds are dirty like scotty said(rather unlikely if there were no symptoms until this point) or your alternator has stopped functioning. I'd suggest to check system voltage while the car is running to make sure it's 13.5-15 volts. If you can't do that, advance or another auto parts store will if you can get the car there.

If its to the point where your car doesn't want to start, then yes, it sounds like the alternator is on its way out. I got this message 2 or 3 times over the last 2 years, but it was due to a momentary overcharge.

2004 pontiac grand prix, check tire pressure, charging system failure, check engine soon lights all come on and has been on for a while like 2 months. I have been to both autozones in my town and penzoil and walmart and all of them cant get a code from the car. Every so often "reduced engine power" comes on and you cant accelerate anymore and very hard to turn. Have to pull over and shut off and open door then start it back up to b able to use car properly but yet again the other 3 lights come back on the DIC pllleeeaassssee help thank you

my 2004 was getting errors for ABS/TRAC/STABILITY AND BRAKES...and then the charging system failure light happened and the DIC, HUD, radio and IPC all lost power...car still starts up after 2-3 key turns and will idle and drive fine..everything i listed still will not display at all...unless i remove IGN1 relay under the hood...but doing that the car wont start ...im looking at the BCM as a potential culprit

edit: i have replaced a few parts from a known 100% working 2004 gtp with the same options...

ignition switch, under hood fuse box, dash fuse junction, multiple relays, battery, alternator

Make sure it's not the ignition switch

I too am having TRAC/STABILITY/BRAKE SYSTEM warnings on my DIC. The other day I went out to start it and nothing happened. We jumped it and it was undercharging. Ran a couple of tests and figured out that the alternator was bad. It then overcharged the battery and the car went into a loss of power mode. No shifting into 4th in manual mode. Both the alternator and battery were under warranty since they were less than a year old. Now I am getting charging system failure notifications again. The last one the voltage was reading 14.22. Under acceleration the voltage was dropping but as soon as I took my foot off the gas the voltage would increase. I have an 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP with the 5.3L V8. Any suggestions???

Might have to do with the battery current sensor. That's my guess.

We unhooked the alternator from the "the brain" of the car and the voltage held steady at 13.66. It is still throwing the charging system error on my DIC. The things it doing doesn't make sense

Thank u. I just heard something that I haven't heard come outta my boyfriend in the past 5 days..."it makes sense, especially since we unplugged it from the "brain" and let the alternator work for itself

My vin says that it could be 5 or 10V sensor. How do I check to see which one it really is? Which wires?

Can you see a part number on the sensor?

IIRC, you test the voltage on the middle wire. It'll either read 10 volts or 5.
