My Wife and I recently purchased a new 2013 GMCTerrain. That is now her main vehicleand I am taking over her 2004 Grand Prix GT. I was previously driving a 2003 Grand Am GT. I am just wondering what tips and/or adviceyou have for me regarding the GP. Iā€™vebeen driving it for about 2 weeks now and I am liking the differences I canfeel from the Grand Am. I will list someof the details of the car below:

    - V6 3.8L
    - 81,000 Miles
    - No accidents/engine work done
    - No modifications done
    - Had to replace both rear window regulators lastmonth
    - Color is black on black leather
    - No window tints
    - She purchased it back in 2004 new

Bear in mind I have little experience (none) with DIY carmodifications and engine work. The onlything I do on my own regarding my cars is wash them and change the air filterwhen needed.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Hi and welcome.

How far are you looking to go? My suggestion typically to someone in your position would be to learn the basic maintenance things like an oil change, spark plug and spark plug wire change. That way you can keep it looking good, driving good and save a little money at the same time.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I want to ensure the car lasts for another 5 years at least. I could see myself driving this car until it drops or is too costly to have fixed. It still looks pretty sharp, I plan on claying it and seal/waxing it this weekend. Oil changes and spark plug changes were something I never really tried to do. I'm sure if I researched oil changes and spark plug replacement I could do it correctly. What benefit would changing out the spark plug system provide?

If you take car of the car and keep it from rotting out, expecting 20 years of service from it is not out of the picture.

I plan on replacing the spark plug and wires this weekend after I watch a YouTube video demonstrating it. Should I get these parts from AutoZone or should I order them from the dealer?

Sometimes when I go to start it up she won’t turn over unless I give her some gas. Will replacing the spark plugs and wires fix that?

That could be caused my many things from a fouled set of plugs to a dirty IAC valve or even a vaccum leak somewhere, I would set with plugs just regular bosch's and AL606's are fine for your vehicle. I would then pull the IAC and spray it down with some carb cleaner and see how that works for you.
