Re: Dorman parts any good?
I can cut off with a sawzall? I have an impact gun though. Do I just tighten them till I can't tighten them anymore or is there a certain torque spec? Or does the bolt and nut only tighten so far?

Re: Dorman parts any good?
You can cut them with about anything really. I used a pickle fork to seperate the one on my Cadi. The lower half was attached and the top half was gone. So I just stuck the pickle fork between the LCA and the bushing and pryed it off and it fell apart. Slipped the new one on and was done start to finish in less than 10 min.
Re: Dorman parts any good?
What about torque specifications?

Re: Dorman parts any good?
heres a axle how to, it shows how to pop the ball joint. this is the easy way. http://www.grandprixforums.net/how-r...xle-39805.html
i got dorman lca's, they work just fine. you should change both sides tho, if one is shot the other is right behind it. at 40 bucks a pop they are cheap enough.
as far as how tight should the bolts be....tight as you can make them with hand tools, with out stripping them of course, just good and tight.
heres the lca swap how too. http://www.grandprixforums.net/how-c...rms-66203.html

I work at a Consumer Auto Parts and used to work at advanced. Pretty much everything you get from these places are cheap and dont last for ****. Dorman being one of them but for the price of being able to replace most of them 3-5 times for the price of once at the dealer who can complain and most parts have 1 year to lifetime warrantys. If you want quality go to dealer or respectable performance dealers. If you want cheap go to places like advanced auto zone and cap. Allthough cap does tend to have some higher quality stuff like timken. moog is meh, ide use a timken bearing over moog anyday. but you get what you pay for. There are places like Gater auto parts that sell dealer parts at reduced cost though. Basicly all they do is have a bulk account setup with the dealer like any garage and gets parts for say 1/2-3/4 of price and then resales them for 10-20% less than dealer.
Re: Dorman parts any good?
I just made my sway bar links real right. Specs are 17-26 ft lbs.
Re: Dorman parts any good?
dont buy these at a parts store, they cost 70 or more there, when you can get 2 them on line for the same price almost. rock auto and partsgeek are both about 40 bucks a lca.
Re: Dorman parts any good?
Do Dorman lca come pre lubed? I'm really concerned about the quality of these Dormans and them running out of grease :/

Re: Dorman parts any good?
the stock lca arms are the same, no grease fittings, and they lasted how long now? ive have my dormans for over a year easy now, still good.
dorman is about the best stock replacement your gonna get.. moogs would be a up grade over stock.

Re: Dorman parts any good?
not to pick on ya scotty but you say you had them in over a year, BUT how many miles is what count's example I have a 1997 I bought new and it has 314,000 miles on it my parents have a 2001 PT cruiser the bought new and it has 25,000 miles on it so how long parts last is more about mileage and before you should ask yes I wonder too why my parents even have a car LOl
Re: Dorman parts any good?
Just ordered the $42 dormans, which is cheaper than the $270 each Canadian arms.

about 10,000 miles so far, did them when i had the trans swapped. swapped my old ones at 216,000 or so, give or take a few miles.
after changing every other part of the front end, the lca fixed my clunks.
id have to think if stock is good for 100,000 miles say, these should last as long as stock. side by side i bet you couldn't tell one from the other.
only think i don't like is no grease fitting for the ball joint. but niether does a stock lca. moog have that but cost more money.
and a lot of us use the dorman lca's. for the price they are worth it. like i said tho, dont pay 75 a side at a parts store. thats just crazy talk lol
if you can wait a week order them on line.
Re: Dorman parts any good?
ok I am starting to think maybe I am missing something and maybe I got an awesome deal on my moog arms $53.00 and arm shipped to the house they were just not that much higher than doorman did I get a deal?
Re: Dorman parts any good?
iirc last i saw they were in the high $60 dollar range to 70 plus a side. maybe they came down? or you got a good deal, add a discount code and save as well.
Re: Dorman parts any good?
Re: Dorman parts any good?
I bought them last year apparently the went up about six bucks since then Moog RK80538 Control Arm Ball Joint Assy | eBay
Re: Dorman parts any good?
Never had Dorman LCA's, had a moog and a delco advantage.
Delcos were shot after at year.
Moog was on its way out after a year.
After seeing the dorman sway bar, there is a reason their parts are so cheap. They do cut corners where they can. For example on the sway bar, the links and inner bushings are very soft rubber.
Slightly off topic, but this would be a nice solution to the front lca bushing:

Just have to have one made for your LCA.
Re: Dorman parts any good?
FWIW I used Dorman on my Regal. It's been 3 years and 55K. Still a happy camper!
Re: Dorman parts any good?
Anyone know of any rockauto discount codes or where to get them?
