I just installed my two 12" subwoofers into my 98 Grand Prix GT and I would post a pic right now, but I can't because someone just totalled my car. I spent at least 24 hours over the last week installing these subwoofers and cleaning my car and making it nice, and now it's wrecked. I was making a left hand turn on a two lane street with no left hand turn lane and no left arrow. I slowed down while approaching the intersection and while I neared it the light turned yellow, a few cars went through, and seeing no other cars I continued into the intersection and started to make my turn. Halfway into the turn I look up to check the light and I see a headlight in my face. The middle of the front of her car slammed the front right of my car, knocking my car back 15ft while her car continued another 20ft from the point of impact. She was going at least 40mph on a street that had a speed limit of 30mph in order to knock my car that far back. I later inspected the intersection and observed that the yellow light duration was actually rather quick, and if she had made it through the intersection, it positively would've been considered running a red light. Thankfully, I am okay, all I sustained was an extremely light scratch on my pinky finger from it scratching the dash when the wheel bent forward.

Yeah thanks dude I appreciate it. My dad is heated about the car though because he wanted to turn it into a race car eventually and have some fun with it. Also they are super low value now, kbb is like 3gs for it and my dad is positive that we'll barely get anything from insurance.

I reread what you wrote a couple times.

First read through I thought..you are an idiot for running it. Then I read it again and thought of how I look at the light on the other side of the intersection as well and thought.....maybe he was watching the other lanes light and then jumped the gun a little before getting a green.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Sounds like you were both running a red light.

Glad to hear you weren't hurt though, hope nobody was.

Thats why I never turn on yellow or red. People will also try to rush on a yellow and hit you.

Ya I guess I forgot to add we were heading in opposite directions. The were eastbound going straight and I was westbound turning south. Pretty much though I was turning on a stale yellow and she wasn't even looking and ran through when it turned red. I was going pretty slow through the intersection too I was driving pretty conservatively.

It was yellow when I started through the turn, and had been for a couple seconds also.

Not saying I agree or not with any of the conversation above but regardless whose fault this was, at least you're still verticle. The car can be replaced.

If it turns red while turning its considered running a red light

Incorrect. As long as you are in the intersection when it is still yellow it is legal.

I have been almost hit so many times doing that, I will be sitting in the intersection waiting for traffic and the light will turn red and some jack ass will blow the red light.

If it turns red while turning in IN and OH it's running a red light.

I wouldn't venture into a yellow for anything in Madison..these liberals and right wingers all think green is go and yellow is goer.....unlike Chicago were 5 cars turn left on red and people watch out for that and respect it

You may be right on OH, but in Indiana if any part of your crosses the white line before the light turns red then you are in the clear. (used to be an officer)

Exactly what I thought you were doing.
The light turned yellow for you both at the same time.
If it was safe, you turned in front of someone. If it wasn't you both ran red lights.

Instead of watching the light, I watch the traffic and make sure they stop before I make the turn. That really pays off because many times there's still traffic in the intersection when the light has already turned red. Doesn't matter what the light says, people just want to hurry up and get where they want to go, even if that means beating a red light, and getting in an accident. Sorry to hear about that.
