Is a high performance thermostat the better choice ? Thanks.
No.
Worthless without the fan turn on points lowered in the PCM anyways.
There is no high performance thermostat.
I have seen a couple advertised as high performance as high as $37.00.
Don't buy it.
Do I have to ask 3800 performance to have that added to the PCM ? They don't have a phone # they haven't emailed me back yet.
I'm just starting to order parts, I haven't moded anything since my grand national days when I ordered my 87, so I'm a green horn at this. Just got an 02 40 anniversary gtp with 85,000 on it,here's my plan so far catless down pipe, 3.5 pulley, PCM,autolite 104 plugs, transgo shift kit,jmb fender intake,180 stat, smaller v belt, zzp motor mounts, stabilizer links, lower control arms. Any input would greatly be appreciated . Thanks for your time. John
skip these parts:
- shift kit (no need, seriously - the tune will handle stiffening up the shifts)
- thermostat (100% useless item, i don't care who you are)
- motor mounts (unless you need them, of course)
- LCAs and end links are only necessary if yours are junk, as well
put the money you save on those and put it into something else. like lowering springs.
Thanks man I appreciate the info. I have been told my car is factory lowered, it seems to look lower than other grand prix's.
Factory lowered?
You mean saggy springs.

I have been told my 40 anniversary gtp came from factory already lowered. I don't know for sure if this is true or not, but it does look lower to me than non 40 anniversary cars. Car has 85,000 so I don't think suspension is shot. No bodies in trunk.
No, the 40th Anniversary cars did not come lowered, whoever told you that was wrong. The SLP cars had a GMPP/Koni optioned out suspension that lowered the car a smidge, but not very much at all.
Sure the tires are the correct size?
its how old now?
Of course the springs can be saggy.
Mine had 80K or something useless on them and were sagging.
Ok thanks for the info. How do I find out if my struts are shot ?
It wont be the struts. It will be the springs.
Take a picture, most on here should be able to tell how its doing.
Then, set it on fire and collect insurance money.
