yup... car gets to third gear then wont shift anymore... Just as i started looking around for a new truck to trade it in. Car has to much rot to even think of buying a tranny for it.

well it dont need a whole tranny, it needs a 50 dollar part. aka 4 th gear hub

i bet a pm to billboost37 may result in a cheaper then you think repair in the end. hes in ct. moving or moved to mass.

thats if hes still doing work on cars on the side. last i heard he was doing work here and there.

i think its the tranny... its starting to shift really hard into all the gears now too. I work on cars i just dont have the tranny jack to do the job... i pulled the dipstick and it smells burnt. im not sure if its because of the 4th gear issue or the trans is on its way out

kicker is you dont "have" to remove the tranny to fix a 4 th hub.

a tranny gone bad is no reason to get rid of a car, unless its a full blown turd and rotting out.

If I were you I'd try a pan drop and filter change before making any final decisions. It can be done with very few tools and could possibly help 1st through 3rd gear. 4th gear can also be replaced in car by lowering the engine and transmission with support from above.

Don't give up just yet. My transmission was slamming into gear, shifting ridiculously slow, and had basically black fluid a month after I bought it. I did some work at home and now it's legitimately shifting firm, fast, and just straight perfect.

when a tranny is slipping your not supposed to change the fluid.. it usually makes it worse. im changing the 4th gear hub in my drive way soon and then trading it in

they will never know its missing 4 th. just trade it in, no sense in doing the 4 th hub when the rest is crapping out and your trading it in.

We just spent $2280 nope not a typo, we thought about junking the car and trying to find a replacement GTP, but we would end up with another GTP that could have a trans issue, so we said screw it and paid to have the trans pulled rebuilt, new Torque Converter and then replaced. (also had new brakes done)

In the end we have a nice clean GTP with a good trans and a warranty. We really do love the car, it drives nice, is fairly quick for a family sedan.

If the body on your car is rotted badly, I would just leave the trans as is, because the dealer won't give you much for the car with a bad chassis/body anyway. As mentioned they may not even notice 4th gear on a city test drive.
New GTP Owner. Totally Stock. Yes I am keeping the motor in the GTP, No I am not stealing it for one of my Fiero's. Car Details; 2000 GTP 3800 S/C Auto. Bose Audio. There have been Zero mods done to the car, so starting from a clean slate.
