What do u mean nasty coolant? How does it effect my car
Dexcool and unverisal green/yellow/orange coolant are different types. They can't be mixed together. When they do, the coolant will end up turning are all nasty and might even sludge up.
You must not have a very good mechanic.
Do I have to flush it ASAP ? Or can I do it when I get home driving it 260 miles?
You'll be ok for a short amount of time.
I mean. How long does it take for this sludge to happen?
I am 260 miles far from home.
I have 2 cars here.
My girlfriend wanted to drive the mixed coolant car to me 260 miles.
Is it safe to let her drive it? Or no.
Yeah it'll take a few weeks or maybe even longer before it messes anything up.
youll be fine to drive it home just flush it and fill it with green coolant... and when you flush it make sure you get all the nasty residue out of the cooling system
ok thank you guys
He probably added Dex not realizing or thinking that you might have switched it. Granted if you are as deep in to modding your car as switching the coolant a mechinic should probably not be touching your car or you should have a better relationship with him, but none the less do that **** ASAP. It will coagulate. And if you drive it daily, do it real soon.
Heh, most of the mechanics I know top off all the fluids after doing anything with a car as a matter of course. It's a good way to squeeze an extra $10 out of every customer.
Relax..it's going to likely turn brown and look funny. It'll work fine for a little while.
Universal and Dex mix just fine, which is why it's called Universal/AnyColor. Me, I only guy AnyColor. Makes it very easy to put coolant into any car.
If bill says it its probably true ^
Personal note, Dexcool is a OAT (Organic acid tech) coolant, Old green coolant used to be silicate based. When mixed evil sludge is produced. Even worse is when you mix the origional old defective dexcool blends with the silicate based green. Nowadays though almost all coolant including green and yellow are OAT based and dexcool is actually pretty awesome now so it is usually ok to mix unless the cars coolant is very old.
I would still try to keep it to one or the other though.... if its green use green. If its orange use orange.
The cars coolant is all new. I had a full flush like 2 months ago and I changed to the green. And 2 weeks ago he added a dex bottle that I had in my trunk after repairing lim gasket. So it's now mixed.
Are you sure the Mechanic added real Dex Cool and not stuff that was "Dex Cool compatible"? Dex Cool is red, regular stuff is green, then you have the orange that Bill references that is compatible with both. Most garages use the Orange so they don't have to stock multiple fluids or worry about what they are putting into what.
If he added the orange fitz-all you will be fine, no worries. might be worth a phone call to double check on what he added before you go to the trouble of re-doing the flush.
Thats what he added. I'm not sure if its orange or pink. But this is the exact bottle.
and the bottle wasn't his.
It was mine in the trunk. I had it there.
