How would I know if my water pump is going bad?

It is leaking out of the holes in the housing, it is making noise, or you suspect low coolant flow. Why do you ask?

as marines542 said, overheating can be a sign, but often, you can tell before it gets that hot. If youre cruising and your car is running a few degrees higher than yesterday, or if it takes longer for the gauge to drop once the stat opens or the fan kicks in, that can be a sign.

I drove for most of the summer with the pump on the way out, i noticed the car was running closer to 210 than the usual 188-192 but i figured it was because it was over 80 outside. The day before it failed it had been running 215-220. When it finally went, i had steam, no power (because the belt got wet and was not running the alternator or p/s pump), and it got up to 230 and the heat was blowing cool. I made it into a Wendys parking lot and shut er off before it reached the red zone.

I watch the temperature like a hawk. Thats why I dont understand some of these new eco-box cars dont have a gauge, just an idiot light. If its 65 outside and at speed you normally run at 190 (give or take ten degrees) and it seems like youre staying closer to 200-205, thats your early warning that something is amiss. Granted 205 is not outside the normal range, when you know your car, you know when she's not feeling well.

Go out in the morning and look under the car, if you see a puddle that gets bigger each day, that is bad.
Or, lean over the belt while car is running.
If it is spraying water up at you, that is the pump weeping on the belt.

It has low coolant flow...I think, it is overheating then going back to being cool if i go about 80. About a month ago I thought it was my rad. Replaced it brand new thought it was fixed (i did have a rad leak so that was fixed but still kept overheating) so thats why I think my waterpump is bad. Plus I hear a whine and im pretty sure its not my supercharger. Not 100% sure how they work, but I hear a whine when im going like 20. And my engine temp starts to rise.

It could be the water pump. Also the PS pumps are known to have a wine. Mine does everyone and then. Especially when cold. The water pumps are very easy to change out and only require a couple hours max

Hmm...but my power steering is has been fine? Ill replace the water pump if that doesnt fix it ill replace the Lim if that doesnt get it im selling :P

The whine is the ps pump. Try changing the fluid. Turkey baster will do the trick.

My thinking exactly. Just cause they wine doesn't mean their bad cause mine always wines

Alright ill take a vid of it on my way to work and post it when i get off.

with the car off, with two hands, grab the water pump pulley, push and pull the pulley, if it has play and moves, the pump is bad. you can do this with the belt on.
